Ever wonder if Akihiko once kept a picture of Miki he had with him at all times in his wallet or something and at anytime that he lost faith in himself and or was demotivated or even in deep thought, he would pull the picture out and look at it for a long time to remind himself to push on and live. And that during October after Shinji's death he added a picture of Shinji to remind himself even more. And then added Minako's after March. These pictures kept him going during everything afterwards.
☈ I like to think that he has nothing to remember his sister by. I imagine most would have been burned in the accident.
Miki was more of a source of guilt for him for the longest time. Everything he does is motivated by the crushing guilt he feels; until he makes his resolution at least.
