A Leap Of Faith Excerpt // Introducing Addison
She kept her gaze at her feet, watching for every crack in the sidewalk just to be sure she didn't accidentally step on one. Always she made sure to step over with the same foot, the left, and if that meant having to move into an awkward gallop at certain points, she'd do it.
“Addy!!!”
The college student had been so absorbed in her little game, she hadn't heard her name being called out. The hand that came to her shoulder nearly caused the poor girl to have a heart attack, or that was how it felt as she jolted out of her skin. Her foot came to rest on the crack in front of her, and her brows furrowed together as her heart settled.
“Excuse me,” She adjusted her glasses as she looked up to meet the person who'd caused her to fail at her game. She found a boy around her age, with shaggy blond hair, and she immediately met his hazel gaze. “Did you need something?”
Addison had no idea who this male was, but something about his eyes felt familiar, almost nostalgic, if she had to put a word to this feeling. Maybe she'd just seen him around the campus at one point, or maybe they shared a class and she’d just never noticed. Yeah, that was probably it, she never was very observant of her surroundings.
“Huh?” He blinked, before letting out a chortle, “No, not at all.”
Addison's brows furrowed once again, and she opened her mouth to speak, wanting an answer as to why he'd rudely broke her from her concentration then, but quickly snapped her trap shut when he began to speak again.
“You really haven't changed a bit,” The stranger smiled, “Just as spacey as ever.”
“What...?” She gave him a skeptical look, feeling uncomfortable that this stranger spoke so knowingly of her character. He noticed, and laughed again.
“You don't remember me, do you?” He looked around, the smile never leaving his face, “Maybe we should find another place to talk, people are starting to stare.”
Addison's own eyes scanned the area then, and the boy was right, everyone was staring. But not at them, just her. Every pair of eyes looking this way from the small crowd that gathered, every single one had been on herself. No one spared the other even a glance, maybe there was something on her face?
I knew i was gonna bring up some hysterical kids but I never knew it'd be this great. I just wish she wouldn't pretend to be normal once the camera's out.
