Ahhhhhhhhhhh nother old OC!

(I am prefacing this by saying whole I do not like JKRowling, HP is still very precious to me. Making my own content does not give anything to her. Okay? Okay.)

This is my HP OC, Mara (Not her birth name but she's long since forgotten her real name)

Mara exists in the modern era and was not born a witch, but gained magical abilities through a very bad deal with a Baba Yaga. Essentially, her magic isn't derived from the same source as born witches and wizards, but instead directly from Baba Yaga herself as an extension of her. As a result BY has full control over Mara and uses her to live vicariously in the wizarding world while she stays in her home in the woodlands of rural New York. Baba Yagas are blind, but she can see through Maras eyes, feel through her body, and live through her in every way.  Sometimes she will push Mara to her absolute physical limit as Baba herself suffers no negative effects and can block out unpleasant feelings.

Baba maintains control over Mara by keeping her heart and part of her liver in a jar of unicorn blood. With her actual heart from the same unicorn. These act almost like horcruxes.

This also means that Maras magic is different with pros and cons.

Pros:

-Her use of magic is not traceable by the various Magical Departments of Government.

-She has a direct knowledge of magic through Baba.

-She can communicate with certain magical creatures as Baba would be able to.

-Baba can pull her out of truly dangerous situations.

Cons:

-She cannot summon a patronus.

-She can be blocked from using magic by Baba.

-Some magical creatures will react aggressively to her or run from her.

-She cannot make certain potions that require her own blood, hair, etc.

-She actually has no control over her own life or body.

-She is slowly losing memory of her Muggle life.

How did Mara end up in this situation?

When Mara was around 16 she had a baby who was killed by her mentally unstable mother. (Smothered in their crib.) Believing that she would be blamed for the death of her child, Mara ran away from home and took up living as a squatter in New York, where she remained until her early 20s. She ran various hustles that ranged from quick changing, to dine and dashing, to fraudulent checks, and many more.

One night while dumpster diving she caught sight of a wizard screaming at an old woman, he pulled his wand on her only for him to drop dead on the spot. The old woman was of course, Baba and the wizard was her previous "lifeline". Sensing her presence, Baba asked if Mara would help her with the body and in exchange she would explain everything.

Mara, having nothing to lose, helps her transport the body back to Babas home. In a state of shock, she doesn't question it until they get to Babas house in the woods. After being filled with borscht and in on the world of magic, Mara is given two options:

Replace Babas former lifeline or;

Die.

Initially hesitant, wondering if death wouldn't be preferable considering her life and situation, Baba sweetens the deal by offering to dull the pain of her memories, and downplays the sheer level of servitude she would be under. Finally Mara agrees and undergoes the horrific ritual of having her still beating heart removed from her body, dying, and being brought back to life with the transplant.

Some details about Mara:

-Her wand is made of pine wood from the Red Forest with a core of Baba Yaga hair, and Iron around the grip.

-Maras enjoys broomstick riding above all else and her hobbies include racing, Broomstick Derby (like roller derby on broomsticks), and building custom broomsticks that have a modern Muggle flair.

-Maras personal broomstick is named The Black Banshee and sports a carbon fiber casing, rubberized grip, fold in handles, a seat, a kick stand, fold in foot holsters, and "scrapers". She also has a Death Whistle attached to it which uses the airspeed to produce the screeching that lends to its name.

-Maras is friends with not just witches and wizards but also magical creatures, even her derby team is a mix of them.

-Maras animagus form is a Pizzly Bear.

-Mara navigates around aurors and MACUSA by acting as an informant for them regarding other criminal activity in the New York wizarding world. She has a long standing professional relationship with an American Auror named Hamish (whom she calls Hambone). Since mostly she just acts as a proxy for Baba, she's not considered a major threat.

-Mara generally avoids major wizarding spaces in New York and keeps generally to underground wizarding communities.

-Whenever asked about her schooling, Mara lies about it, claiming that she's lost memories of it due to various magic related accidents and stating that she had to relearn a lot as an adult.

- Mara is now in her early 30s.

-Mara has feelings for Hamish but doesn't pursue them and suppresses them out of fear that Baba will interfere with the relationship or make her harm Hamish to punish her for a percieved transgression.

-While being able to party, sleep around, and indulge with no risk to her health is fun; it is often degrading, tiring, and goes to the point of pain. It's not over until Baba says it's over.

-Mara can be "loaned" to others by Baba for work.

-Some free time is allotted to Mara when Baba Yaga sleeps.

-Shes kind of an asshole. Her sense of empathy and sympathy are blunted by Baba. However, she holds a deep disdain for wizarding supremacists on principle.

-Refers to technology, especially stuff relating to radiation, as "Muggle Magic". She also carries a small firearm because she knows that real magic doesn't always effectively protect you.
