Sephiroth: Why are you asking me this?

Cloud: Ummm, well, I thought it was you and...

Tifa: Oh god, Cloud, what did you do?

Cloud: Well I don't really know how it happened but uh. Things happened. You know. *gesturing*

Sephiroth, with dawning horror: Did you fuck my mother while she was taking my form.

Cloud: *tiny nod* I think so.

Tifa: What the fuck Cloud? Why did you have sex with him in the first place!

Cloud: Hey, he came onto me, okay?!

Sephiroth, head in his hands: Oh god.

Cloud: I'm so sorry.

Sephiroth, head still in his hands: No, no, this is my fault. I was controlling her and I let my desires get away from me. I'm not mad at you, I just...no longer have any will to live. You guys can just kill me now.

Like noooo pal you just remember watching Evanescence x Advent Children AMVs on YT 15 years ago or just didn't actually play ff7 more than 10 minutes because what you just described is literally a 10 minutes lasting facade that nobody buys to begin with.

Cloud is barely a defrosting ice queen once he gets over his "don't talk to me don't even think we can be friends" act (because someone asked for his name) after max 20 minutes he is one of the most open character of his team. Still has a bit of an attitude sometimes but he has nothing to do anymore with how he acted in the very begining and he is pretty open and trusting at times. Which makes the revelation that he was a unreliable narrator all along even stronger

(and the reason he had a very cold and arrogant facade and then just dropped it in 10 minutes (depending on the dialogue choice he still can be cocky but much less of an open jerk) is probably because he literally just woke up from a years long coma from traumatic (and dna changing) life experiences + actual scientific experiences and he needed a minute to settle in his self gaslight of a coping mechanism)

And what i love is that he is not *that* dignified either, at least as far as JRPG protags go.

He gets in ridiculous situations (yeah Cloud, just take the dolphin express to get past the guards), has motion sickness and will actually get sick and throw up sometimes after a roller coaster ride, most of his friends think he is strange but don't really know how to bring it up (fun fact if you don't have Tifa to back him up when you get there, they will think that Cloud lied about nibelheim burning). Guy has 45 and half mental illnesses and not really in a romantised way. At some point he crashes so hard that he is nearly unresponsive in a clinic after washing up and is out of commission for a while. He and his scrambled memories gaslighted himself into believing he was a super cool high ranked soldier who was super friend wirh Sephiroth. He panics in the submarine because his motion sickness had claustrophobic babies and calms down once his friends tell him to "chill out and take the wheel you will feel better". His life was spared because after Zack escaped the lab with a comatose Cloud, the infantry who shot zack like a rabbid dog thought that Cloud was too pitiful and sick to make it so they left him for dead in the mud.
