Kalia’s eyes watched the pages intently as the tale of dragons came to life. Sitting by the side of Jon Snow, she patiently awaited her turn to read part of the story with a sense of excitement and intrigue bubbling away inside of her. Winterfell’s library held hundreds of books in a wide variety, some even written in High Valyrian, but the ones which included dragons always peeked her interest the most. When came her turn to read she paused for a moment, humming quietly in thought before presenting her reading companion with the same question she had just silently asked herself.
“Do you think the dragons will ever return? …Do you think you’d be able to ride one if they did?”
There was a part of him that enjoyed these tales the most. The library was full of books and ledgers, old maps and family histories, but nothing could hold his interest like knights and the dragons which only existed in these books now. It was a sad thought to know he would never see one with his own eyes. They sounded fearsome and beautiful, but perhaps it was more of a blessing with the type of destruction they knowingly wrought. “I don’t know.” At least, it was an honest answer. Was there really a way for them to come back when the last of their kind ceased to exist? He closed his eyes a moment, tried to imagine climbing a scaled back and holding on. “I’d like to ride one, but would it let me? Can they be as easily broken as horses?”
