Packed nicely together in a vase is a bouquet of flowers, of blue flax, blue hyacinth, iris, pink carnation, tea rose, and straight in the center of the mess of flowers was one single red rose, tucked away. A tag with his name is located at the bottom of the vase, placed with care.
Blue Flax — “Youare very kind.”Blue Hyacinth — “I will give my life to your service.”Iris — “Your friendship means so much to me”Pink Carnation — “I’ll never forget you.”Tea Rose — “I’ll remember, always.”Red Rose — “I love you”
Love was a conceptforeign to Vexen, one that he could not possibly understand, even if his heartwere in tact. That was what the other members of the Organisation would say ifquestioned – all except Zexion. There was little that Vexen remembered from before he lost his heart. Shatteredmemories scattered within him, only the brief echo of a remaining sensation, the odd word, familiar feelings that he couldn’t quite explain. However, theone thing that he was certain about was his closeness to Zexion. The comfort hefelt when he was there, the concern he felt when he was on a mission as well asthe flutter when their hands locked together as they had done on manyoccasions. He knew that deep down he couldn’t possibly love the younger man, that it was ascientific impossibility. Nevertheless, he couldn’t deny to himself thebutterflies he felt around he who meant far more to him than anyone else. Whetheror not it was mutual he could not ask, so would have to suffice with ponderingas he did many other scientific questions without answers. That was until he saw the display of flowers. While to Vexen many floral displays were meretricious, there was a clear amountof meaning behind the gift given by the younger Nobody. Each flower had adifferent meaning, friendship, dedication, and while he knew he couldn’t be so– love. Part of him wondered if he actually had a heart in such a moment, butno beating could be felt in his chest. Then why did he feel such a strange warmrush of affection.“I am unsure what to say, other than every single one of these is mutual.Clearly you are far better expressing such sentiments than I could hope to be,”he uttered as a wrinkled hand moved up, his fingers tracing along the slightlyindented mark from the pen where the note had been written to him. He stayedsilent for a moment before he turned, his emerald eyes forcing themselves up tolook at the smaller Nobody. To think there could be so much light packed intosomeone consumed by darkness, there was truly nothing in the castle better thanZexion. There was so much he wanted to say, to tell Zexion how bright he was,how caring, how he would be nothing without him, but while all the words hedesperately wanted to say screamed in his mind – they couldn’t leave his lips.Opting for the often-used expression of affection, he simply moved his hand up,squeezing Zexion’s in his own.“Thank you,” he said, hesitating a moment as he glanced towards the door. Whilethey certainly weren’t doing anything wrong, it was still an intensely privatemoment that he wanted to keep just so – even from the likes of Lexaeus whom healso deeply trusted. Once certain Nobody was within earshot, he turned hisattention back to Zexion.“I would-… I would like to kiss you, if it would be appropriate.”
