               It’d been exactly one week since the Queen of Scots had arrived at French Court. One week since the dauphin’s future wife had assured him that she had every intention of marrying him. Francis had made it clear to her that alliances were not set in stone; that they would often break---change. However, it was a delicate matter, considering they’d been engaged since the age of six. This had been a well-thought-out agreement between two nations. Whether the future King of France liked it or not, he would marry the Scottish Queen. He had no say on the matter and he was fine with it. He knew France would always come first. 

               He’d be lying if he said the thought of marrying the girl didn’t terrify him. Mostly due to the fact that he had his own reasons not to want this. In fact, one of those reasons happened to be sitting right across from him at that very moment. Radiant as ever, Anna from Arendelle had been at French Court for years due to an alliance with the King and Queen. From the moment she walked into his life he knew he would never meet anyone quite like her again, and therefore he couldn’t possibly let her go. From that day onward she became his confidante and closest friend. And eventually growing into one of the most beautiful young women at Court. 

               Truth was they’d been spoiled. In the six years they’d known each other no one had ever come between them. They’d never had to share one another. Until now. Francis had been avoiding her ever since Mary’s arrival; who could blame him? It would’ve been fine, if it hadn’t been for the kiss they shared the day before the Queen arrived. It had been nothing, really. A mere peck on the lips. In fact, the entire experience had been a disaster. The kiss itself quick and clumsy. Now? The awkwardness between them was palpable. The silence deafening while they pretended to work on the assignment given by their tutor. They hadn’t said a word to each other in the past hour. With a displeased sigh, Francis decided he couldn’t hold it in any longer. ❝ You’ve been awfully quiet. ❞
