🎂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEIRA 🎁
From Official Secrets, 2019. I really liked this film, based on a book but more importantly, based on a true story.
A woman who betrays her country and the USA by revealing an "official" secret to prevent a massacre and an escalation of violence. I'm quite surprised I've never heard her story, which took place in 2003, before this movie. It's an important act against the Iraq War (even if it was in vain). She preferred to follow her conscience rather than follow her duty of confidentiality.
Always happy to see Keira again, especially in the lead role, she is touching, the film keeps us in constant tension, we are tense with empathy for her. A good cast. I'm glad to see the Keira Knightley/Ralph Fiennes duo again (for the better this time, he's making amends ^^)
‘Clippets’ of the bedtime story reading by ✨Matthew Goode✨ as he lulled me to sleep. Yep, he could read to me any day. 😀His joking of his work causing people to nod of was funny, however his voice has a soothing melodic cadence which creates a since comfort. —•— #MatthewGoode #matthewgoodefans #adiscoveryofwitches #kingsman #thecrown #officialsecrets #Fourkidsandme https://www.instagram.com/p/CISPwO0hw3g/?igshid=5fzf2qy0wk5t

Ahead of a new film, Official Secrets, the GCHQ worker who tried to prevent the 2003 invasion of Iraq recalls those feverish days – and thei
Saw it yesterday as part of the London Film Festival and HIGHLY recommend. It's a shocking look into the coercion and lies surrounding the attempts made by the US government to gain votes for a UN resolution, which would enable them to attack Iraq. Basically, they were willing to use every dirty trick to find out personal and any information to blackmail members of the UN, notably from smaller countries.
The UK government was horribly complicit and the film focuses on Katherine Gun, who leaked a classified memo in an effort to stop the war from being sanctioned and what happened to her as a result. It's clever, intelligent and gripping, a real pleasure to see a film which doesn't dumb down. Directed by Gavin Hood (Eye in the Sky).
Perhaps the most shocking and scary thing is that the politicians at the time, namely Bush and Blair, weren't even half as bad as the those leading the US and the UK presently.
Keira Knightley holds the film, she is very good. Matt Smith, Ralph Fiennes, Adam Bakri and Matthew Goode are great in their supporting roles. Our MG is, of course, not on screen often enough, but lovely to see him. Nice touches of humour in the film too.
The audience was riveted throughout and there was an enthusiastic round of applause at the end.
