If it doesn’t offend someone or make them laugh then I’m not wearing it. You’re lucky I am wearing a shirt at all.
"Nobody wants to work anymore" is, and has been, an entire crock of shit since the phrase was first uttered.
I would like see people developing skills with How To Be Work Ready. I am 54 years old and I have a contract position at a Very Large Online Retailer. Remember, I am on contract, not a direct employee.
One of the things I am frustrated with is the lack of knowlege for How To Work In An Office. Learning workplace 'soft skills' has as much importance as knowing the job itself. I often feel as if the toddlers are running the daycare. There is so. much. literal. screaming here.
Common occurences in this company include: Phone absorption Rushing the elevator Standing in doorways Personal hygine Conversation volume
PHONE ABSORPTION. Folks, there is nothing on your phone that is worth your life. No. No there is not. Not even That Thing. For your personal health and safety, PUT IT DOWN. Do not try to answer that email or text while you're walking. If you think you must answer immediately, look around for a safe spot and then reply. Please do not stand in the middle of a driveway and wonder why the UPS guy is blaring the horn and yelling at you.
RUSHING THE ELEVATOR. After selecting your floor/direction, go to the indicated elevator. Put your phone down. Stand at least one body length from the door. Leave your phone alone. WAIT FOR PEOPLE TO GET OUT OF THE ELEVATOR. If you get run over by the maintenance cart because you got in before it got out, that's your fault.
STANDING IN DOORWAYS. You are at work, you are not a cat. This is not cute or endearing. This is a safety issue. Put your phone down, and walk completely through the doorway.
PERSONAL HYGIENE Nobody needs or wants your mucus. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or handkerchief while coughing or sneezing. I do not give a solitary fuck if you do or do not have covid. Nobody wants your bodily fluids on them or their work station. If you do not have a tissue or handkerchief, cough/sneeze into your elbow, or even raise up your shirt and cover your face. Use hand sanitizer after you're done sneezing/coughing. Wash your hands if you have time. Don't pop your pimples/acne at your desk. Those are also bodily fluids no one wants. Perfume? Better to go without it. Just because the toilets are auto-flushing doesn't mean you don't have to check. Always double check that everything flushed away. DO NOT SHAVE YOUR GENETALIA AT WORK. NO ONE WANTS YOUR DISCARDED PUBIC HAIR.
CONVERSATION VOLUME. Remember that saying 'use your inside voice'? That applies to your workplace too. If you're in a conference call with someone across the country, I assure you, you do not need to yell at the screen. If you take a personal call, please do your best to take that call in a private area. While I am delighted that you did a full spectrum STI check, I do not need this information. The rest of the floor also does not need that information.
If you have a helpful work-around for anyone with a disability, feel free to share.

What to Wear..... or not!!!!!
What to Wear….. or not!!!!!
So needless to say I spent most of Saturday, either trying to get the dogs to go out to do their business in the 2 feet of snow…. let’s just say they are not fans….. or sitting on the couch going through a million articles and blogs that have been sitting on my “to read” pile for a few months now.  Who has time?  I just keep piling them all up in the “to read” pile. Because I had so much time on…

Workwear Propositions: an exercise in salopettes
Workwear Propositions: an exercise in salopettes
Hello! Another proposition. Another envelope to push farther than the last. It’s not even that crazy to be honest but I think I’m on a denim kick simply because I am outrightly banned from wearing it at work. Even blue coloured woven cloth is interpreted as denim and faux pas-ed. So here is a ripped, silver hardwear-ed, white denim all over that would make them shake in their conservative,…

The corporate goth tag is so... Not corporate? So allow me to add my face to the mix as a black-clad, Halloween loving office worker with a fairly strict dress code. Spider web cardigan is by HellBunny
Teaching Sleuth
Growing up, I absolutely loved Nancy Drew. I read the original books from the 30s, 40s and 60s since those where the ones my school library had. I remember getting lost in the detailed covers of each book, and admiring the elegance of Nancy, Beth, and George. They did all their sleuthing in style! So naturally, the first thing I thought about when I put this outfit together was that it reminded me of Nancy's style, hence the title of this post. This outfit is a bit more for winter than spring, but my classroom is freezing, and I'm not wearing anything under the blazer.
