One thing I am surprised and honestly kind of outraged noone has ever even considered as a widespread initiative is voluntary chemical castration, of men in particular, but really of anyone who wants it. It is clear to me that straight men and their sexuality are a source of immense problems in our culture. And many of them don't even want to be - we often hear how being sexually active is not a choice for men and that it is simply their biology that makes them want things that, let's be real here, they can never have, at least not without immense effort. Mainstream pornography is, as we all know, ethically quite damaging, that much is admitted even by people generally in favor of it, and we cannot change norms in this kind of industry overnight. So if we are already going for moonshots, why not offer people a different option - if you can't get the things you want, what about forcing yourself to stop wanting? I am not very well-versed in modern endocrinology, but I remain hopeful about capabilities of science. And if a cocktail of chemicals that would make one basically asexual is not available, then what are we doing creating better sex toys and all that when we could've been working on this instead?! We humans have come up with all sorts of ways to control many aspects of our biology, from conception to the grave. We have made things like period pain or, well, periods themselves optional. Yet the wonderful vision of making sexuality itself optional is something everyone refuses to even consider! How so? As of now, so many people, women and especially men, are forced to live with the knowledge that their immutable biological desires will never, ever be fulfilled. Who does this immutability help, pray tell?! Isn't eliminating all want the goal we all strive for? And wouldn't taking a simple little pill that would tame that beast that dwells within you and allows you to live a life free of desire that you didn't choose and that you simply cannot productively fulfills be just that, elimination of desire?
