I've been trying to find out more things about Odin and Freyja and what they would like as offerings, especially during self-isolation since I'm not able to go out and get things much. Do you have any ideas here?
The witchblr community has an emphasis on edible and drinkable offerings, largely because - I suspect - historically offerings were often made to the gods during feasts and festivals and other celebrations, where food was an important part of the ritual. However, they are by far not the only things you can give to the gods, and perhaps a better way to think of it as things you can devote.
Full disclosure; Iâve worked with Odin for ten years, but I have very little experience with Frejya, so Iâll be doing some research of my own for this ask. If anyone sees this post and works with Frejya and would like to add their own thoughts, please feel free to do so! Second, these answers are my own UPG, though I will do my best to explain my suggestions.
Alcohol of any sort. Mead is traditional, but not always easy to get hold of. Generally a good idea with any in the Norse Pantheon.
Research and knowledge. Odin literally gave his eye for information, and in my experience he really likes people who seek knowledge for the sake of knowledge as well. Likewise, Iâve heard Frejya described as â patroness of women who attain wisdomâ. If youâd like to learn something new while youâre quarantined, perhaps dedicate effort you put into doing so.
Combat/Martial Arts. Do you practice a martial art, or even something like yoga? Interested in taking one up? Youtube is your friend. Both Odin and Freyja are deities associated with war, and keeping up a âritualâ practice of these things is not only a good offering, but also a way to keep your energy up.
Donations to Animal Shelters. Frejya is associated with cats and birds. Odin is associated with ravens and wolves. Donating to your local shelter, or charities that rehabilitate and protect wild animals, is certainly not a bad idea. You could also consider involving your pets or familiars in your practice or meditation in some way, but of course be humane about it.
Knitting and Crafting. Odin and Frejya are both magick-workers, and both have some knowledge of the future. Knitting and weaving - and other related crafts - would relate to the âthread of the wyrdâ. Perhaps creating something either in their honour or for their altar would be a good idea, or learning how to knit/weave/spin wool etc. You could also incorporate spells into the weave.
