Been wanting to do a lightweight something for a long time but I’m not too interested in the 4lb rifles that require every single part to be some goofy unobtanium to save weight. A friend recently wanted to do the same thing and so that started the whole thing off. The Faxon 14.5″ gunner barrel is just about the same weight as a 16″ pencil barrel so I decided that struck a nice balance between barrel rigidity and weight, plus it is something different from my other rifles. I had ADCO (crazy fast turn around) pin the VLTOR flash hider and got a 13.5″ rail from ADM. The upper is a slick side (w/deflector) Anderson unit that BTW, is excellent for the money (exact finish match to the AMD rail). Apparently Vortex released their Crossfire optic right about the time I was shopping and they are/were a sweet price so I went for it. The weight as you see it in the pictures is 5lbs, 12oz. That’s two full pounds lighter than my gray rifle (same lower). Half of that is in the optic, but a pound of it came out of the rifle, so I am really pleased. It’s all the lighter a carbine needs to be. Just got it put together this week so gonna go see how it runs today.
