Understanding the YouTube Partner Program 2027 Requirements
YouTube has officially announced significant updates to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP), scheduled to take effect on February 1, 2027. This marks the first major adjustment to monetization eligibility since 2018.
Here is a summary of the upcoming 2027 requirements for new channels:
Subscriber Threshold: Remains unchanged at 1,000 subscribers.
Long-Form Video Route: Increased from 4,000 to 8,000 qualified public watch hours over the previous 12 months.
Shorts Route: Increased from 10 million to 20 million qualified public Shorts views over the previous 90 days.
According to YouTube's announcements, existing YPP members will not be removed due to the new entry thresholds. However, creators earning from Shorts will face a new ongoing requirement: to remain eligible for advertising and subscription revenue sharing on Shorts, channels must maintain 10 million qualified Shorts views over every rolling 90-day period.
The lower threshold for features like Fan Funding and Shopping remains unaffected. Creators can still unlock these tools with 500 subscribers, three public uploads in 90 days, and either 3,000 watch hours or 3 million Shorts views.
