A constitutionalist's view of the OR Standoff
Ok I'm just going to jump right into this by making a couple of points as to what I believe is going on in Burns OR. 1) The claim that the federal government is not allowed to own the land currently being occupied is correct. The federal government is only allowed to own land in conjuction with an enumerated power. Sorry environmentalist congress does not have an enumerated power to own monuments, parks, or animal refuges. As no power was delegated to it and as no amendment has been passed granting the federal government this power it is thereby restricted by the 9th and 10th Amendment reserving this right to the people and the states respectively and I call on the federal government to immediately start selling this land back to the states or directly to the people. 2) The current occupation of this land is, let's be serious here, just plain stupid. For 1 it is not the job of citizens from other states to come into a state and occupy land saying they are trying to help the residents of that state resist federal or state government interference. 2nd this occupation was obviously done with little to no support from any of the locals which under a federal form of government are the rightful owners of the land in question. 3rd this was obviously done on the spare of the moment and with no exit stradegy and is starting to look like these people harmless as they may be are only looking for the immortality that fame brings and are willing to repeat the Waco, TX, standoff that happened nearly 20 yrs ago under President Clinton's watch. 3) For this type of action to be in concurrence with the wishes of the founders it would need support from either A) The Local government or B) The state government. I can not and will not ask people to die for a cause that clearly looks more like a honey trap then a well thought out plan. The issue is they want an outcome that clearly the federal government is not going to go along with and neither the state or the county or the local town want. Does all these mean that I don't think we should stand up against tyranny or an ever increasing totalitarian government? NO however we have far bigger problems right now then some idiot beauracrat acting like an idiot. If you want to protect existing ranches from becoming targets then give them your protection don't go to their fences and cut holes in them saying you are trying to give them back the land you believed the government stole from their great grandfathers, since this land has been a refuge since about 1908. Or go and live in a visitor center to try and prove a point. I mean really a visitor center surely you all could have thought it out a little more seriously and picked a target that would have been just a little more impact full on the federal government and garnished a little more attention from the federal government. No to be clear I do not stand with the BLM. I believe that they are unconstitutional and should be eliminated without objection. I also don't believe that it is the right or business of an out of state militia to come to an area and occupy it in order to try and arrange a governmental change. Personally I think you all in OR have lost your minds and that goes for all of you both local and out of state militia. Learn to do some tactical training and learn to build a plan B and C into the plan along with an exit stradegy. Otherwise you have a poorly planned out suicide mission.
