I don't really know how to say this because I'm kind of still in shock of how hard this is affecting me, but uh, now that he’s gone I'm kind of realizing just how much of an influence he had on my last few years since I started getting into Marvel. For one, he inspired me to start taking writing seriously again, and who convinced me to actually develop the world of OC4SCREEN. And it was through Marvel that I began to realize how grey the world was- and how that was ok.

Have you noticed that in almost every picture of him he wore this huge, genuine smile on his face? Cool, I want to be like that. I want to see the good and the world and smile because I get to live in it.

One of my biggest dreams is to create a world so vast and intriguing that people want to be a part of it, just like he did for us. He created a place where everyday people could become something more.

In the end, he was the real superhero, because he created a world where we could escape without leaving the real world all together. A world where to be different was to be extraordinary. A world where the lost were found.

Which fictional characters would be part of you squad in real life?

Probably Piper. She’s a lot like me and my friends in multiple ways but she’s also different and would bring interesting ideas into our group.

What are your three all time favorite songs?

My favorite songs changes every six months so I’ll just say my favorites right now. If I Could Tell Her from Dear Evan Hansen; This is Me from The Greatest Showman; and Something Wild from Pete’s Dragon.

Three things you like about your WIP/ OC’s?

Nic is such a sunny and inspiring person. Marley is the cheerful and loving younger sister everyone needs. Jxn has goen through a lot and it just keeps building up but he never abandons his morals.

Picking Up the Broken Pieces-

When Aurora was first created it was in relation to her girlfriend/ guard- Holly Love. Now that I’m developing them more individually and as a couple, many details are changing. First off, Aurora’s name will be changing to Princess Aria, mostly because Disney’s Aurora is popular and I don’t want to deal any issues involving that. I originally picked Aurora because it’s a beautiful name but as Aria is just as beautiful I’m ok with the switch. I’ve been debating this decision for a while but I think I’m ready to make it final. Second, I originally introduced Aurora Aria as one of my many lesbian OCs. After more development, I believe Aria would identify as queer instead. Third, as the original romantic side plot involving Aria and Holly was toxic and directionless, their relationship will no longer be a backstory and may or may not build gradually throughout the story on the basis of love and respect instead of deception and naiveness.

OC4SCREEN-

This wip was originally going to be written as a screenplay, and if you read the excerpt, I even started it as a screenplay. However, I have decided to scrap that idea and write OC4Screen as a regular book. I will continue to call it OC4SCREEN until I come up with a better name.

Gwendolyn’s Code-

Nothing is changing for this wip, however I hope to introduce more Oc’s relatively soon. Gwen and Owen are so far the only OC’s introduced for this wip, but I had many more planned back when I first started this project a couple years ago and I just need to update them.

Scene 1: The city, day

[A small HAWK is circling over the city and suddenly dives down as if it has spotted its prey. It flies into a bank, whose doors had been thrown open by a small group of armed robbers. Multiple patrons are cowering on the floor while a single ROBBER points a handgun at the ceiling. The ROBBER is a white male in his thirties, wearing a black mask and trench coat. The HAWK perches on a cabinet to the right and behind the ROBBER, watching the scene patiently.]

ROBBER

Now, folks, I don’t want any trouble. My boys are in the vaults withdrawing a little bit of money. Not a lot, just enough to get by. So if you’re good, no one will get hurt. Ok?

About Me: My pseudonym is Paige, so I guess you can call me that. There’s a last name too but that’s unnecessary here. I’m aroace and go by she/her. I’m a social introvert which means I like talking to people but need time to myself to recharge sometimes. Other than writing I enjoy graphic design/ photo editing, going to the beach, and hanging out with my dog and cat.

District 7

Zoe’s Perspective

Rumors passed between lumberjacks as we headed home from the forests of District 7. Whispers about the Capital float through the air, each one claiming different but equally wild things about it. They eat their own kids in the Capital. They dye their hair with the blood of tributes in the Capital. The people in the Capital never have to work a day in their life. The sad thing was, no matter how insane the rumors got, there was always a little bit of me that believed them.

The Capital was nothing like District 7. Here, everyone worked for their lively hood and led humble, hardworking lives. There, everyone was a crazed self-obsessed lunatic who didn’t work for anything. And yet, they were the ones who controlled us.

Tomorrow was the Reaping, where the Capital takes two kids per district and makes them slaughter each other in the Hunger Games. That’s how they keep their control. That’s how they make us fear them. But just as there are rumors of the Capital, there are rumors about this year’s Reaping. They say it’ll be different this year. Some say they plan on only taking one tribute, others say they’re taking three. One person claims to have heard a peacekeeper say that it was canceled. That rumor was the only one I didn’t believe in the slightest. The Capital would never cancel the games.

As I left the forest I recognized a girl sitting on the grass studying the trees behind me. I think she worked for the paper mill, that would explain how she got the papers now in her lap. The papers were full of graphite sketches, the forest, the town, the paper mill. They were all beautiful. And so was she. I passed by without a word.

I woke up to the sound of my mother knocking brutally on my door. I wanted to remind her that she didn’t have to chop down my door like a tree, but instead I rose quietly without a sarcastic word. It was the day of the Reaping, and I didn’t want my last day with her to be full of fighting. She didn’t say anything to me either, just turned and left when she saw I was awake. Last day, my brain couldn’t process the words. I had decided long ago that I would eventually volunteer for the games, hopeful that I could tear down the Capital somehow. The days had gone by quick, and now I’m here, getting ready to for my life to change in one way or another.

I pulled a blue dress out from a trunk in front of my bed. It was the only dress I owned, and the only one I needed. The Reaping was the only time anyone here dressed up.

“It matches your eyes.” My older brother said just as I finished pinning it in the back with a button.

“Thanks.” I said moving from my dress to my hair. I peered into a small glass shard- a piece of a broken mirror- trying to twirl my hair into a bun. Through the shard I could see him behind me, leaning against my doorway with his hand in his hair.

“So um, if I get reaped today-“ He started after a period of silence.

“You won’t.”

“But if I do, Zoe, you’ll look after Dad, won’t you?” I turned and stared at him for a moment. Dad was old, much older than our mom, and was losing his memory quickly.

“Yeah, I will.” I said, though I already knew I would be the one on stage, not him. He nodded. I turned back to the shard and struggled once more to pull it into a bun.

“Hey um, would you mind pinning up my hair?” I asked.

1. How are you doing today?

Quite well, how about you?

2. You ready to answer some questions?

Sure!

3. How do you feel about your last name? Your surname?

My last name is ok, I guess. It’s Gadwall, as in the duck, which I guess is fitting since I’m a shapeshifter. But my last name has always been a bit troubling, as it reminds me of my parents (who were killed when I was 7). When the director of the Superhero Organization for whom my parents worked adopted me, he asked if I wanted to take his last name. Even as a 7 year old I knew that would probably be a lot of paperwork, so I told him I’d keep Gadwall, I think he was disappointed. So yeah, I try not to think about my last name too much. To most people I’m just Piper.

4. Is there anything you’d like to thank your author for?

I’d totally like thank my author for killing my parents. And Jxn’s mom. And making all the adult superheroes disappear right before a crisis. That was just great.

But really, the author has given me an amazing team to work with- Nate, Jxn, Nic, Zoe- even Tristen. Oh and I can’t forget little Marley. Without them I’d never be where I am today.

5. You can only eat three foods for the rest of your life, what are they?

Only 3?! Hmm, the Director’s vegetarian lasagna is basically heaven on a plate so I’m definitely keeping that. And one time he took a trip to France and brought back beignets which were an absolute ten out of ten amazing. For my last one I have to say the all American... veggieburger. On the 4th of July my parents always grilled some on our back porch and now I continue that tradition with the team.

6. Have you ever done or said anything that surprised your author?

Paige was definitely suprised when I let Tristen join the team, and I kind of suprised myself too. He was awful to us last year, but something changed in him when he got his powers. I think joining this team has helped him improve a lot and although it was risky, I’m glad I let him join.

7. You have limitless funds, what kind of party are you going to have?

I assume this question implies the money must go towards a party, otherwise I’d definitely donate it to help people and animals instead. But even then, it’s a fundraising party for the city’s less fortunate- split between less fortunate people and less fortunate animals. It’ll have booths where people can meet and adopt shelter pets, optional donation boxes that go to help build homes for the homeless, and of course- live music, tons of food, and everyone’s invited! (Heavily protected by a team of superheroes, of course, since large groups of people are easy targets)

8. Tell us a quick story about something that happened to you that not even your author knows... yet.

Ok so I think Paige was starting to catch on to this but not quite. I kinda have become sort of a big-sister figure for Marley. I was an only child as a kid so it’s been nice to have a a little sibling.

9. Do you have a favourite hero?

...This is awkward, I shouldn’t pick favorites. Please don’t show this to anyone on the team but... Zoe. Jxn and Nic have done amazing things on the team without powers but Zoe has truly become a warrior and it’s been super (ha-pun) inspiring to watch her grow from a popular and shallow school girl to a knife-throwing, villain punching, all around hero. Not to say the others aren’t tough powerhouses though.

10. What do you plan to do after this?

Ehh, maybe train, maybe catch some common criminals, maybe do homework. Probably a mix of both tbh.
