Iβm curious how In your AU Helmutβs family reacted over time to Helmut being psychic and his relationship with Bob
they're conflicted about it and aren't really sure how best to handle it, since he's the first psychic in the family. they are not like Loboto's parents, but they do encourage him to be careful and secretive about his powers. they're afraid of how the world will see him. both for his own safety but also for their family's image.
which, as we know, is not how Helmut operates at all. he has to be loud and proud about the way he is. ultimately his family's more proper ideals prove to be too restricting and he leaves home to make his own way in the world.
they don't hear from him for years, and when they do it's in the national news, in the aftermath of the battle with Maligula. they wouldn't know who exactly Bob is to Helmut, but seeing the man in tears unable to even speak to the reporters, they can tell that their son had been very loved.
is it their fault that his life ended this way? they could have protected him more, kept him from leaving. maybe it proves them right about psychics, that the world was a dangerous place for people like him. or maybe they should have given him more freedom to begin with. shouldn't have been so afraid to let him be his wonderful, unusual self.
i've been playing with the idea though that one of his siblings, probably his little sister, ends up having a kid who is psychic and goes to Whispering Rock. which also fits nicely with my headcanon that post-game Helmut becomes a camp counselor there. it would be a nice setup for a family reunion.
