This is a crow, just to clarify. (Ignore the âfeathersâ lol)
This bomb is nearly 3K words long. Read at your own risk.
Today we finally have Emcy, after Teddyâs mental world lore and Old Wyanne lore, i re-introduce Emcy to u all.
I used to associate them with a crow, but after a lot of more debating I chose the raven to represent them.
Ravens are larger, and tend to travel alone, in pairs, or in small groups.
Emcy prefers (almost always) fights their battles alone, or with one or two friends.
In Irish and Celtic lore, Morrigan (the deity of war, fate, and sovereignty) is most commonly represented by the Raven.
Emcy is the Player Character. They ended a goblin rebellion, decided Ranrokâs potential sovereignty was not going to happen, therefore being the key point for the fate of goblin kind and wizard kind.
In some Native American Folklore, Ravens and Crows are âtrickstersâ, but end up benefiting the world as a result of their interferences.
Emcy works in the shadows, tricking their enemies by hiding their appearance, making any surviving dark wizards suspect every cloaked figure they meet. Emcy ends up benefitting the âbetterâ part of the world by defeating Rookwood and Ranrok.
In Norse and Viking mythology, Ravens are thought to be messengers for Odin, or warnings that Valkyries have come to choose the slain for the battle.
While Emcy is not a messenger for a higher-up, the fact that when they are at a specific place usually means a camp of dark wizards is doomed, so their prescence is like a warning that death was going to come. This one is kinda far-fetched.
Emcy was a happy Squib, but the hate they faced while living in London was a but too much to bear, so their parents finally, after making enough money with their shop in Diagon Alley, moved to a quaint town in Northern Ireland. The town was mostly made up of old wizards, muggles, and squibs, so it was quite peaceful. There they met Wyanne when they were both 9 years old Emcy wasnât talkative, but Wyanne talked enough for the both of them, so it was a good relationship. Emcy was pretty average height before hitting a growth spurt at 12, and theyâve been growing ever since until 16.
Emcy isnât MC, though in my first HL fanfic, both the original (with Old Wyanne) and the rewritten one (Universe A), they do have similar roles. MC was someone who was more joyful and light, like a typical Hufflepuff, while Emcy isâŚ
Depressed teenager who hates themself and hates that theyâre being forced into a position they never asked for in a world they didnât really thought much about and even hate a little for their opposition against Squibs and suddenly they have to save this place because four old portraits say so??
Here Iâll be talking about Universe A.
Emcy did not have the will to do this by the time they left the goblin mine with Amit, so itâs about 2/3 into the main story storyline. When Emcy heard that the goblins were making drills, they were suddenly so tired about all this. Exhausted and emotionally drained, they head over to the Map Chamber and take on Niamh Fitzgeraldâs trial.
And then yada yada. Emcy has gathered the wand materials and is ready to go get it made. Before they could go they get an owl from Ominis, frantically explaining that Sebastian had gone back for the relic and was in the catacombs. Worried for their friend, Emcy immediately apparates to Feldcroft. Wyanne was already there comforting Anne. After dealing with the situation they make their way to Ollivanderâs, where they soon get kidnapped by Rookwood and finally kills him after dealing with his cronies. Before Emcy could go to the Repository, Ominis asks them to meet in the Undercroft again. After some quick discussion they decided not to turn Sebastian in.
They head down to the Repository, and we all know what happens. Fig dies, final battle happens, and Emcy defeats Ranrok. They restore everything with the last strength they had and finally collapse.
It was restored. Everything was restored.
They buckled to the ground with a hard slam, legs awkwardly tangled with each other as they cough, each hack tearing their throat until a tangy metallic taste started filling their tongue. Every part of their body was as heavy as lead as they helplessly tried to move, even just a finger might do. They could hear their heart thumping in their ears and they justâŚwanted toâŚ
And this is where Wyanne appears. Sheâs scared, sheâs tired, she runs over to Emcy after realising Fig had died from the fall.
âEm!â Wyanne grasps their hands and rubs them between hers, shivering from the cold in the cavern. âEm, are you alright?â
Here, Em canât speak anymore. So they use their Legilimency abilities to talk to her.
Wyanne, she hears, Wyn, I think Iâm dying. She immediately shakes her head. âNo, no youâre not,â she whispers even as tears fill her eyes. âYouâre not dying, Em. Not on my watch, alright?â But it hurts⌠âI know. I know it hurts, Em, but youâll be just fine. The professorsâŚyouâll be alright. Itâs just the fatigue speaking, mhm?â Iâm tired. âI can tell. You have eyebags. They make you look like a ghoul,â she laughs quietly. A faint smile tugs at their lips. You look like one too. She rolls her eyes. âIf youâre tired, you can close your eyes and go to sleep. Iâll be with you by the time you wake up,â she promises.
I might not wake up this time. ââCourse you will, silly. Who wonât?â Iâm dying. âAs I said, youâre not dying,â she rolls her eyes again with a chuckle as her speech wavers. âYouâll be just fine.â âŚSing me the song.
Now, the song in question will be part of a separate rant.
âAre you gonna tease me?â No. âIâll take your word for it.â She squeezes their hands, and as she starts singing, their gaze stays on her face just as she stares at them. The small smile across her lips, the faint furrow between her brows, the warmth in her voice, and the golden shine in her teary eyes. They kept looking, memorising each placement of her freckles, fearing that they wonât see her again.
Black dots start swimming in front of their blurring vision, shrouding her in the dark until all they could hear was her voice. They could no longer feel the tight grip on their white hands, the beat of their heart, the softness of her hands over their calloused palms, nor the pain in their muscles and the cold ground under their back. There was no more fatigue, no more worry, no more pain, and all there was was her voice, still echoing in the cavern.
Wyanne watches as she sings, watches Emcyâs erratic breathing settles until their chest stills, watches as the last of their grip falters in her hands, watches as their pale face rests into sleep, watches their diamond eyes fall shut, watches the last flutter of their lashesâŚ
âTell me,â she sings, believing they can still hear her, âthat weâll meetâŚin our dreams again.â She hums the last notes. She can almost hear their resigned sigh when she finishes.
âEm?â Wyanne whispers. âEmmie.â
She caught her trembling lip between her teeth and blinked, willing the tears to not fall, not yet. âEmcielian?â There was no sound of their voice; not in her head, not in her ears. âEmcyâŚâ She sniffled and swallowed her tears. Rubbing the back of their hands, she blew out a shaky breath. âGet some rest, Em.â
In this story, Wyanne is more vocal about her concerns against Sebastian, so Emcy was much more wary of the Slytherin despite the "niceness" he displayed. Still, they helped him with Anne because they and Wyanne shared the same sentiment Sebastian and Anne do.
Emcy has a less strained relationship with Ominis in here because both boys have their own troubles. Their relationship feels less like "we know each other because we have a shared friend" and more like brothers.
Here, everything is mostly the same up until Feldcroft. This time Wyanne goes into the catacombs and finds everyone. Emcy was on the ground, panting and waiting for the Wiggenweld to heal their wounds.
âYou have to stop, Sebastian!â Wyanne stops at the entrance, watching the uncle and nephew confront each other. âYou cannot help her!â
âYou always say that!â screamed Sebastian. âYou should be on my side! Youâre never on my side! Why would you take me in if you hate me so bloody much!â Wyanne watched in fear when the Slytherin raised his wand in determination. No. âI wonât let anyone stand in my way anymore. I wonât let her suffer!â
She apparates â âAvada Kedavra!â
The last thing she heard was a grunt.
Emcy eyes widened as soon as Sebastian casted the spell. They looked up and could only register the fact that there were two bodies on the ground.
Sebastian was panting. Staring. His wand clattered to the ground.
Yellow robes. Brown hair.
Emcy scrambled up and fell at their side, hauling Wyanne up. Solomon groaned and crawled up, confused at what had just happened.
âWinnie,â Emcy shook her limp body frantically, âWyn!â Her head lolled to the side. âWyanne, Wyanne wake up. Wy â â She wasnât breathing. She wasnât breathing. âWyanne!â
They had witnessed death. Countless brutal, quiet, immediate, or slow deaths. âWyanne, wake up, this isnât funny, alright?â Emcy spoke quickly, slurring their words while they checked for her pulse. âWyanne, you canât ââ There was no pulse. âWyanne, youâve gotta wake up, okay?â They hated how guttural their voice sounded. They hated how their head was chanting the same thing, the one thing they never wanted to hear.
A heavy hand rested on their shoulder, but they refused to acknowledge him. âSon,â Solomon whispered sadly, ââm afraid sheâs gone.â
ââŚN-No,â Emcy shook their head, âno, no, sheâsâŚsheâs just fainted, okay? Sh-Sheâs not dead.â Sheâs too young to die. People donât die so quickly. âSheâsâŚâ Emcy finally let out a sob and hug her to their chest. She was still warm. Was the heartbeat against their chest their own or hers? Emcy smoother a hand over her hair and hugged her tighter, as if that might bring her back. Solomonâs hand was still on their shoulder.
A shadow silently fell over them. âIâmâŚâ Sebastianâs regretful voice sounded in a whisper. âIâm so sorry.â
So anyway everything got delayed. Emcy buried Wyanne at her favourite spot in the highlands over the weekend and quickly finished the task with the wand and killed off Rookwood. Again, there was a letter from Ominis. They didn't expect to find Sebastian there.
"Em..." Sebastian started, but was immediated stopped by Ominis.
"Ominis," Emcy greeted with a curt nod, "...Sallow. What was the letter for, Ominis?"
Ominis explains Azkaban stuff.
"I don't want to lose Sebastian..." Ominis whispered. "But I don't think we have a choice."
Emcy looks up at the boy pacing nervously on the other side of the Undercroft. They thought of their first meeting in DADA. How Sebastian slowly fell deeper each time Emcy relented. How Ominis had cried, stressing over Sebastian when he had missed classes again. How they had to come between the Slytherins' arguments countless times. How Sebastian had revealed each of his best friend's secrets, how he had manipulated them. They stopped their train of thought when Wyanne's face showed up and looked down at the floor.
They frowned. "I think..." They wanted him to go to Azkaban. They wanted him to suffer for what he'd done, what he'd taken away from Wyanne. A chance at growing up. They wanted him to fucking rot in that prison for the rest of his pathetic life. They'd gone to Azkaban with Wyanne when they had to go find Anne Thisbe, and honestly? They thought it was almost the perfect punishment for the pain Sebastian had caused.
It would be so easy to just say it. To fall victim to their own hatred. To do the right thing.
But what about Anne? She'll be completely alone. The last living Sallow. And if Sebastian went to Azkaban, his crimes will surely put him on the Prophet, and what will the world think of Anne? Anne Sallow, sister of a murderer and dark wizard. And they'll find out Sebastian was friends with Ominis Gaunt. Gaunt, the family of dark wizards. The Sallows were friends with the Gaunts. The Sallows must be dark wizards as well...
"You said it yourself once, Ominis," Emcy said coldly, looking up from the ground. Their gaze bore into Sebastian's, blue eyes meeting hazel. "One always has a choice." They dug into his brain and pulled the memory of him firing that spell. The moment the spell hit Wyanne. Over, and over, and over again. They watched Sebastian's face crumble.
"Don't turn him in," Emcy forced out just as Sebastian fell to the ground and start sobbing. They didn't elaborate anymore. "I'll see you around, Ominis." They strided out of the Undercroft, vowing to never return.
After killing off Ranrok, Emcy lived the last two years of their life at Hogwarts in solitary. They studied very hard and applied to become an Unspeakable, working on Time Turners and trying to make one that could bring them back to the past. A few years later, they finally created one that fitted their needs.
This particular time turner is kinda over-powered, but let's say it's because of Ancient Magic, mhm? It can bring the user back to any time they wished, but only as long as the time they went back to was one when they were alive. They could go all the way back to the day they were born, essentially. Hopefully this explains it better.
Emcy went back to 1890 and tried to stop Wyanne's death. Failed, failed, failed, she always died for different reasons. Again, again, again they went back; again, again, again Wyanne died.
They refused to give up on her and tried again. This time they accidentally befriend a new person: Teddy Lancelot, the Gryffindor Quidditch Captain, courtesy of Wyanne, who knew Natty, and Natty was on the Quidditch team because Black didn't cancel Quidditch in this timeline. When Emcy failed again and Teddy came to comfort Emcy, Emcy finally spilled everything. To say Teddy was shocked is an understatement, but he totally believed Emcy because Emcy's the most serious guy Teddy has ever met.
"So..." Teddy watched Emcy tuck the time turner away again. "You're gonna leave soon, aren't you?"
Emcy nodded. "I have to save her." They expected Teddy to stop them. To say "maybe it's fate and you can't change it". They were surprised when Teddy grabbed their hand. "Let me come with you."
Surely they heard him wrong? "What?" Teddy grabbed their face and said again, "let me come with you."
"Wha - Teddy, are you mental?" Emcy stared at the boy in absolute shock. "You won't see your parents again!" "I get what you're saying, Emcy. I know what I'm losing. I'm ready." "You're not." "Maybe not until I lose it. But when have I regretted my choices?" "....Never." "Mhm."
After three more weeks for Teddy to be ready, the two use the time turner again. Seven more times they failed. And then they tried the eigth time...only to find Wyanne wasn't there.
After Teddy uses his Seer abilities, they find that Wyanne is in a world that doesn't belong to theirs:
Emcy is desperate here, alright? A dark magic ritual brings Wyanne to their world. She thinks she got isekai'd, somehow, and they know the truth.
Now Emcy and Teddy have to meet this new girl wearing Wyanne's face yet acting more differently from her. Now, this Wyanne is really just the Wyanne you guys all know, but for Emcy and Teddy she's different from the Wyanne they knew. The Wyanne they knew was less loud, more gentle, more realistic, while this new Wyanne is...the Wyanne you all know.
It's already well-established that Wyanne's old reality treated her decently, but she definitely favours this new world more, yet she still wonders a lot. In their sixth year, 1891, a year after Wyanne got isekai'd, Emcy reveals everything to her after she keeps mentioning her old world. They ask her if she wants to return, and if she does, they'll help her despite their own heartbreak. She was angry, naturally, and says she needs time. To leave her alone for now.
During the time she took to think everything through, she acted normal. Going to classes, spending time with other friends and stuff. Emcy asks Teddy, but the Gryffindor doesn't know the girl is thinking either. "Just let her decide," he said.
Finally, she tells them both that yes, she wants to stay.
Emcy had a lot of mental issues at this point, but with Wyanne staying and becoming their friend again, they felt peace again for the first time in a very very very very long time. The only reason they didn't die is because they physically always become freshly 15 years old again.
The following years were peaceful. Wyanne didn't die this time. Everyone graduates. Teddy becomes a professional Quidditch player, Emcy becomes a writer as well as a Curse-Breaker, and Wyanne becomes a Healer. Teddy travels, Emcy and Wyanne live nearby each other until they started developing feelings for each other, and it's a love story for them by the end.
