★☆ for Chris, Bev, 'Berto, and Chelo

Chelo
★ Roberto was really Chelo’s only family, from the moment he was entrusted to her care in 1783 to 1930, when her son Angelino (Baja California Sur) was born. When Baja California was given back to Mexico at the end of the Mexican-American war, she felt forced into isolation away from Roberto. It was an incredibly painful time for both of them.
☆ Chelo is pretty close to Victorio (@crikadelic’s New Mexico). Since Chelo raised Roberto (and did a damn good job of it), and Victorio ended up being a father figure for many of the western US states, they get along really well and that friendship is great for both of them. Victorio also definitely provides a better male role model for Angelino in some ways than his uncle Roberto.
Roberto
★ Roberto never got to see his mother alive again after Spain took him away from his home in 1783. He sees her in the afterlife while he’s resurrecting sometimes, but that’s basically it. He misses her a lot.
☆ Roberto loves that he, Alejandra (Nyo!California), and the California cites basically function as a family unit. It provides all of them with support when they need it, and they’re all pretty close knit as a group. (It’s the reason why no one outside of California (besides Chelo) knew San Francisco was trans until like the 1970s. They kept that information on lockdown and just let Francisca be Francisca.)
Beverly
★ During the days of the wild west, Beverly went off to run around with Sam, Rosa, Victorio, and Lilakai in the southwest. Roberto rode out to meet them a few times, until there was a giant fight between him and Bev. When he didn’t come back to check on her again after a good long while, Beverly was terrified she had just lost one of her brothers forever.Â
☆ Beverly speaks no French at all, while Charlotte, her girlfriend, is fluent. This has lead to Sam (who is also fluent in French) wishing brain bleach had been invented already because Charlotte loves to flirt and talk dirty in French to Bev, who doesn’t understand what she’s saying at all.
Christopher
★ Chris has a large scar on his head, hidden under his hair, and it forms a sort of circle of scar tissue across his scalp. This scar came about from a death he experienced in the Nez Perce War. A soldier from the US army scalped him. He hasn’t worn his hair long ever since.
☆ Chris raises horses. Kiger mustangs, but mainly Nez Perce horses. It’s both a way of preserving his heritage and keeping a tight connection with his own personal past. If he ever gives you a horse born out of his herd, you mean a lot to him.
