The obia is a monster in West African folklore. Described only as a huge, frightening animal, it is usually sent by a witch to kidnap young girls from nearby villages. It will then tear off their skin to wear as a coat.

In Jamaica, the obia is linked to the devil, and is said to be a conduit for supernatural power. Those who use this power are known as "obiama."
