I feel a bit bad for you non-continuity/"restart every episode" show fandoms (Phineas and Ferb, The Simpsons, and of course, Spongebob). It must be like trying to piece together a constantly moving train. The writers have no mercy.
its can be liberating in a sense. because man, i donât know if i can really trust shows that shows that try to have a continuity or some kind of lore. so often when i get into those kinds of shows its like, they go and fuck up the timeline - either through contradictions or sudden reveals that should have been mentioned sooner but never were For Because - or overly complicate the history and timeline in some manner are so frustrating to me. i mean ninjergo or steb uni? eugh. their attempts at continuity and lore might have been ok in the earliest seasons but the more it goes on ... not so much
meanwhile with non-continuity shows its literally do what you want. how faithful to reality do you want to interpret this? how faithful to the/a timeline and continuity do you want to be? how much do you care? its up to you, really. you could randomly decide, okay, the series takes place over the course of a certain amount of years in a certain date, the characters are this old for this work, and its like... it doesnt matter. who is going to take you aside and say, no, you canât do that. well, looks like i CAN do that because the series itself doesnât really care! and i just did! so i win again!
but i do like hoarding and organizing information and trying to make sense of it, sometimes even rewriting it for it to make more sense. in a continuity show, a lot of the times these rewrites make everything so different that it has to be considered an au. but for a non-continuity show? not so much. and while i canât always have my cake and eat it too because of sometimes having very specific opinions about very specific topics ... i find that, eh, whatever, its all fiction, if iâm not doing anything harmful, not promoting anything harmful, who cares.Â
the thing that really gives me the most problems? people who are, well, lets be honest? kind of assholes, about someone ... doing any of that, you know? basically people sometimes treat you like a goddamn idiot for the stupidest goddamn reasons when youâre drawing fanart of a non-continuity cartoon. and i got a lot to say abt my experiences and opinions about that.
