been a while since I dropped a new oc publicly but im feeling good about myself and this guy desperately wants out of my brain cage so everyone say thank you iron lung for rebooting my iswm hyperfixation and creating this new thing that im gonna endlessly throw at yall for a couple weeks until he runs out of energy

-My OC tag for Cassius is #free from destiny (cassius). the lyric is from 'this is a life' and the tag has all the stuff I post about her if youre interested :]
-Cas is 28 as of 2123, the year that ISWM takes place. his Mark is 30.
-yes, Cas has a prosthetic hand Mark built for her - NO, ITS NOT PERFECT. see this post if youd like to know more, but this is just scratching the surface. Cas does not have a prosthetic hand just for shits and giggles, they wear it because of how it changes how they're treated by abled people. people dont pity them as much and theyre treated as more normal because of it, and appearance is what matters when youre a Captain.
-Because we as the Captain don't speak in all of ISWM, my Cas is minimally verbal - in short, this means he struggles with speaking and due to various reasons, often chooses to just not say anything instead of trying to communicate verbally. very simply, a combination of being born with autism, being slow to develop language, being developmentally neglected by their parents, and social anxiety means that both speaking itself and speaking "coherently" or at a "normal" level are incredibly difficult for them.
-Cas is genderfluid, and uses different sets of pronouns at different times: e.g., he/they on one day, she/it on the next day, they/he on the next, etc. The personnel file uses he/him throughout despite this, because the person writing it didn't know how genderfluid people worked, saw someone who looked masc, and defaulted to he/him.
-Cassius' name at birth was Cassiopeia, which matched his twin, Polaris. despite being twins, people often call him Polaris' little brother, because Polaris was always considered better than Cas, so people assume hes older.
-Polaris often called Cassius 'Cassie' when they were little, although he stopped once he was sent away for space camp and the twins became distant. Cassius still calls Polaris his childhood nickname, 'Polly', but only in his head.
-as explained in this post, Cas is the other viewer characters in the same way we are - maybe, not really, but also kind of.
-in my/Cassius' universe, beige is the colour of administrative crew uniforms, like the captain, mark because he built it, the first mate, and navigation crew. that's why Cas is wearing beige. he also has an orange beret (the colour of technical crew uniforms) like mark, to signal that they both have engineering knowledge and can be consulted for that as well.
Alright so I'm gonna just ramble for a bit about two of my favorite/most frequently thought of ocs that I want to talk about more.
So first we've got Penny Day, it's a nickname for Petunia but her friends shorten it to Pen. She's a former Chosen One who was summoned to a magical fantasy world as part of an ancient prophecy when she was 13. She stayed in the world for a year, making friends and learning new things like magic and swordfighting, but when she was sent back home only a day had passed on earth.
She's tried telling people about what happened, but obviously no one ever believes her so she just doesn't tell people things anymore. Where she's going, what she's doing, how she's feeling, she'll tell you enough but not everything.
She's 26 now, and hasn't yet been able to find a way back to that magical realm, and is currently working at a tattoo parlor while she spends her free time going on walks in the neighboring woods or reading at the library, looking for a way back to the lost realm.
Appearance:
Shoulder length brown hair, usually in a ponytail. Green eyes and athletic build. Has several tattoos, most are of arcane symbols but there is also a sword tattooed along her right forearm.
Generally wears simple and durable clothing, looking like she belongs in the cast of Supernatural most of the time lol.

There's also Nick Barrows, an aromantic vampire who's tired of folks acting like he's their romantasy love interest when he just wants to take some classes in peace. Ideally, he'd have preferred to take online classes in college to avoid people entirely, but he's really bad with technology so he has to take in-person classes.
He likes taking up different hobbies and courses to occupy his eternity, and right now he's got a massive painting he's working on in his spare time (over the course of 40 years, might I add). He made a fair amount of money by producing a popular comic-book series in the 80s, and collects the royalties as the "son" of the original writer (which was a fake name). That's pretty much the only reason he can keep taking as many college classes as he has.
He also has a pet turtle, Shelly the 3rd, and a bonsai he's been keeping for about 50-ish years now. He currently works the night shift at a gas station just outside of town, where he pretends he doesn't recognize the girl in his class when she happens to stop by.
Every decade or so there's always another girl in one of his classes who thinks he's this complex and intriguing Twilight-style heartthrob that she's the soul mate of, and he's just staring at her wondering if her dad was the one who plagiarized his paper 20 years ago or if her mom was also swooning over him in the past.
Appearance
Unfortunately, he's not helping his situation by dressing like he just walked out of the Vampire Diaries, but it's not like that's gonna stop him. He usually wears skinny jeans and a leather jacket with black combat boots, and he has a shirt that says "Love Sucks" which he likes to wear for the irony. He has short black hair and blue eyes, which only makes it worse for him lol. He also wears sunglasses literally any time he can get away with it, both as protection against sunlight and to avoid eye contact.
