Just finished another low income #nyserda Empower job. There’s a certain satisfaction in repairing problems that your former employer created. In this case they left several gas leaks Including one big one on some non-code compliant flexible gas pipe. They also didn’t design the ductwork correctly. We didn’t have the budget to fix the ductwork. Instead we put in a more energy efficient blower motor that can self-adjust to create the proper air flow. This should help the furnace last the 20 years it’s intended to last. We also replaced all the gas lines for safety reasons. We did a bunch of other improvements including some spray foam on the rim joist but it slipped my mind to grab photos earlier tonight. Post project testing shows we dropped the blower door reading on this house by more than 33%! Expected heating fuel savings is over 40%! Without going into all the details the primary improvements were attic insulation, 1st level wall blown in insulation, and climbing into those tiny porch attics to seal the band joists. Before and after entire foundation crawlspace encapsulation work. This should eliminate the mold and mushrooms growing throughout the house! Plus fix the frigid floors in winter. The job included full removal of existing mouse and spider infested fiberglass, sealing of vents (vermin access points), full vapor barrier install, closed cell foam board with a metallic facer on the foundation wall. A termite inspection gap was left and we also sealed all edges of the foamboard with aluminum tape such that there are no non-metalic access points for any termites or carpenter ants.
