in which it’s Rafe Cameron’s job to pay for his wife’s wants, but what if that doesn’t happen this time?

Yn and Rafe had just finished picking up the house after dinner, and all the kids were down to sleep for the night, and Yn was grateful. It was a smooth night, thankfully, because all she could think about was the email she got during dinner. Her dream Swarovski bow earrings are back in stock after two years.

Quickly getting herself ready for the night and going back downstairs to the company, Rafe was washing dishes. Sitting on the couch, leaning back with a sigh, getting comfortable, opening her laptop, getting on the Swarovski website, and being thrilled to the ears that they are still in stock.

But Yn had another plan in mind, seeing how her husband of six years would react to her buying her own wants. Yn opened her camera app and propped it before Rafe could see her.

“Rafey, I think I'm going to get the earrings I was talking about.”

Rafe looks up from the dishes. “What? The Swarovski bow ones?”

“Yeah, I got the email during dinner, they're back in stock for a limited time.”

"Yeah? Did you decide which ones you want?" Rafe rinses off his hands, drying them while walking around the extremely large island in the middle of the kitchen. Yn's touch on the house.

"Yeah, I'm getting the mixed cuts one with the mixed colored diamonds." Yn giggles, looking back down at her laptop, knowing what she was about to do would send Rafe into a frenzy.

Rafe walks over to his bag, taking out his wallet. “Yeah, I remember. I also remember how devastated you were when they sold out.”

Rafe walks over, opening his wallet and taking out his card. Yn looks at him, confused, “What are you doing?”

“What do you mean? I'm obviously getting my card for you to pay.”

“Oh, no, Rafe, I just wanted to tell you because I already bought them.”

Rafe's face fell, wallet still in hand, opened, hand on the card, ready to take out “What? You'd better be joking. Is this one of your TokTiks again?”

“No, I'm not joking, does it look like I am, and it's TikTok old man.”

Rafe scoffed, offended, “First, I'm only twenty-eight, and I didn't buy you those because you were conflicted between those and the long emerald earrings.”

“And I told you I was conflicted because they were too expensive.”

Rafe looked at Yn like she had grown ten heads, “I make half a million in a year. Do you hear me? Half a million.

“I just wanted to think on it long and hard because it's a lot of money.”

Rafe sat next to Yn, still in frame, thankfully, clearly stressed. He makes what most families make in a couple of years.

“What? Why are you upset?”

“Babe, I wanted to buy those for you. I know you have a big girl job and big girl money, but it's my love language to get you these things that makes you happy. Seeing you happy over earrings makes me happy,” he checked the wallet on the coffee table in front of him.

“I know, but I can buy them myself.”

Rafe knew she could get them herself, but that's not the point.

“Did you hear anything I said just now?” Rafe is slightly getting irritated.

Yn smiled, “Well, if you're that upset, maybe you can get another pair.” Now giggling, knowing Rafe would double down, and just like she said, he did.

Rafe doubled down, “M'not upset, babe, maybe I'll just get you the whole collection.”

Yn smiled, hearing that “I love you.”

“I love you too, but ever do that shit again. It's my job to spoil you.” Rafe gets up, leaning in to kiss you, walking back to the dirty dishes. “You know what, get those Vintage Chanel kitten heels you wanted. I'll even throw in the Diamond Forever; you were talking about last week.”

Yn was surprised. “They made thirteen of those and only five in the US. How am I supposed to find that?”

“You tell me. Better start looking, princess.”

part 2.

Yn was overly happy, grinning like the Chesiree cat. Finally, being able to get cleared from bed rest was the best thing that could happen to her right as summer rolled around. Could she drink or party? Nope, but being able to come to her happy place, the beach, that's all that mattered to her.

“Ma, you getting in the water?” Kiara asked as she walked up next to her surfboard in hand.

“Not yet. It's too cold, so I think just dipping my toes is the best.” Kiara nodded, putting her surfboard on the water, lying flat on her stomach, getting ready to ride out the waves. The other Pogues, excluding Sarah and John B, who was going to float aimlessly with her, being also pregnant, she obviously couldn't surf.

Yn sighed, happily feeling the hot sun on her skin.

“Yn?”

She heard the most grating, irritating voice, Topper Thorton, and all of a sudden, she wasn't happy anymore.

Yn turned her head, looking over her shoulder, and she wasn't wrong. There he was, Topper Thorton, Rafe's best friend, looking like a kid who had just woke up his parents in the middle of the night to tell them he had thrown up.

Yn turned back around, facing the water, not wanting to deal with him. She knew if he was close by, Rafe wasn't far behind. Two peas in a pod.

“Hey, I know you saw me.” Topper walked up and around the overly pregnant lady, blocking the sun and water in front of her.

Crickets.

“You deaf or something now?”

“Can you not take a hint? Thought you would have learned by now.” Throwing subtle shade at his ex-situation with Sarah.

Topper clears his throat, “Um, I just wanted to see how you were doing, y'know, pregnant and all.” Gesturing at her overbearing belly.

Yn tilted her head, “Who told you I was pregnant? I'm bloated, just ate too much last night.”

“Rafe- Topper, I'm going to tell you very clearly, and then you can run your little ass back to Rafe and tell him that I don't give a fuck what he has to say.” She was over it; she could name the people on both of her hands who had come to “check” on her. It's been six months of nausea, mood swings, cravings, vomiting, and bed rest. Why care now?

“He feels guilty.” Topper tried to reason just like the people before him. She had heard the same excuses over and over again.

Yn put on a fake pout, head still tilted, “Poor Rafe Cameron, always the victim, shocking.”

“I'm serious. He's been in pain since he left.”

“And you don't think I'm serious? Tell him to shove that “pain” so far up his ass that it comes out his mouth.”

“Please think a- Topper get it through your thick skull I don't give a fuck what that man is feeling. I've been in pain for the last six months. Did you ask him what he said to me about my baby? About me? Let him hit below the belt and tell me how you would feel.” It felt amazing to finally say what she had been feeling. It wasn't Rafe, but she knew Topper would run to tell him what she had said.

Topper ran his hand through his hair, knowing exactly what Rafe had said and done, even being best friends, he couldn't defend him.

flashback to 6 months ago

“Rafe Cameron of Kildare Academy is the top-ranked NCAA Division. The only men's golfer of the Outer Banks, North Carolina, holding the number one spot on the Scoreboards CLIPPD rankings, and WAGR. He has maintained dominant form with multiple top-10 finishes, standing out as the most premier player in the country. He is the only men's golfer to hold this title executive for three years.” The announcers read Rafes' credentials on the overly loud 115-inch television playing in front of them.

Family and friends lined up to hug and congratulate him. Yn being next intertwined in that line, being extremely happy for him, but she knew what was on her mind. The pregnancy tests she took in the bathroom of The Pelican Yacht Club. She knew it wasn't the smartest thing to do because people talk, Kooks talk.

“Doll, are you okay?” Rafe asked, looking over at the love of his life.

Yn looked over, made eye contact, smiling, “Yes, I am.” Rafe knew she was lying; her smile didn't touch her eyes like it usually did.

“Doll, talk- I'll be back,” Yn whispered, not wanting to draw attention to them- no, to herself. Smoothing down her dress and walking till she hit the overbearing backyard, finally being able to breathe.

“Doll.”

Yn turned around, surprised, “Rafe, you scared me.” putting her hand on her heart.

Rafe stared at her, trying to figure out what was going on, “We made each other a promise. Remember?”

Of course, she remembered, how could she? “I say, and you do?” Yn questioned, trying to trail off the conversation.

“Yn.”

“We communicate no matter what.”

“We communicate,” Rafe repeats, firmly.

Leaning down to kiss her, pulling back, touching foreheads, “Talk to me.” Rafe whispers, wanting to figure out what has her not being herself.

“I'll tell you after you tell the country what school you're going to pick,” Yn whispers back, pulling back, kissing him softly, putting her pinkie out in between them.

“Promise.”

“Promise.” Rafe wraps his pinkie around hers, sealing the promise.

ִֶָ . ..𓂃 ࣪ ִֶָ᭝ ᨳଓ ՟་༘࿐

“If I remember, little lady, you made me a promise.”

Yn hummed, as she sat on the bed, exhausted, “I don't remember promising anything.”

“Yn, seriously.”

“Rafe, I want you to promise me you won't freak out on me.”

“Why would I-?”

Yn pulled out the multiple pregnancy tests she had taken, laying them on the bed in front of her.

Rafe picked up one of the tests, looking closely to see if it was a joke, but deep down, he knew it wasn't a joke.

“Say something.” Yn pleated, trying to read Rafe's face, but it wasn't giving away anything.

“Get out.” Rafe threw the test down with the others lying on the bed.

Crickets.

“What?” Yn felt her whole world turn upside down.

Rafe points towards the room door. “Did I stutter? Get the hell out.”

Yn was magically glued to the bed, “Rafe, are you seri- dead fucking serious. They told me this would happen. I should have listened.” Rafe cuts her off, talking out of anger.

“Who?” Yn questioned.

“Every fucking body. They told me you would try to hold me back, and I brushed them off. I thought you were different.” Rafe was now pacing up and down at the end of the bed.

Yn swallowed. Rafe's reaction was the complete opposite of what she had anticipated it would be: “I am different.”

“Real, different, right.” Rolling his eyes, he continued, “I just signed to one of the best Ivy League schools. I leave in a week, and you expect me to put my career on the back burner for your bastard baby? You're out of your rabbit ass mind.” Rafe shakes his head, sarcastically laughing.

Yn nodded, getting up from the bed, taking the tests, leaving one on purpose. Maybe, just maybe, he would see it and come to his senses.

“Really, now you're leaving? Real fucking mature.”

“Are you insane? You're telling me to leave, and now I'm immature? I didn't make this bastard baby myself! I didn't lie down in the bed and force you to do it with me, till it finally stuck. We made that choice, and I'm the problem? No, thank you. Don't come crawling back when your big dreams fall apart.”

“Don't hold your fucking breath,” and that was the last thing Rafe said to the love of his life.

Six months.

Six months of silence from both ends.

Six months of Yn hurting.

Six months of Rafe losing his lifeline.

For once in his life Topper was silenced.

“Did he send you?” Yn asked, all she wanted was a solid answer, dammit, she deserved it.

Topper nodded, confirming, “He did.”

She knew it. She knew Rafe like the back of her hand. “I want you to go back to him and tell him to fuck himself, better yet, tell him to come here and I'll tell him myself. If he actually cared, then he would be standing in front of me, not you.”

It's true, Topper thought. If he cared, then he wouldn't have said what he said. He wouldn't be in this position.

“We got a problem?” Both bodies turned to look over, seeing Yn's twin brother and her protector, JJ.

“No, man. I was just leaving.” Topper backed up from Yn, putting his hand up in surrender. Topper glanced over at Yn. “I'll let him know.”

“You okay?” JJ asks as he walks up to his sister, scanning her body for any harm.

“We're okay.” Yn nodded, putting her hands around her big, round belly, caressing it.

“Ice cream?” Sarah asked.

Yn's face brightens maybe even brighter than the sun, “Absolutely.”

Ice cream makes everything better.
