I haven't run since that run around Lake Merced two Mondays ago. I'm exhausted, classes are getting tougher, I just got my mental health caseload at my internship and I'm freaking out a bit on the inside based on what I've learned about some of the clients. A run would be kinda nice right now too. If I wasn't so tired. I need to get a second pair of running shoes to leave in the trunk of my car so I can stop by the gym on a whim.
Training Schedule for 8/18-8/24
Ah, yes... I totally forgot I was going back to posting my training schedule. Well, what's on NWM's workout plan and what I'll most likely end up doing will look very different. Like I said before, I'm behind in my training so I have some catching up to do.
Monday- Called for 3 miles, I couldn't even run half of that today. I got on the treadmill and got 1.5 miles (at a terrible pace I might add) before I started feeling sick and had to head back home.
Tuesday- 3 Miles. (NWM calls for 5 miles) I'll make up for today's run tomorrow (such a true procrastinator's thing to say). I know myself so I'm going to avoid running at the gym. Since I'll be at my internship in Pacifica til 3, I just hope that I can get home and run the lake before it gets dark.
Wednesday- Rest. (NWM calls for XT.) My gym doesn't have any entertaining fitness classes on Wednesdays and I have a meeting to go to in the late afternoon anyway.
Thursday- 4 Miles. (NWM calls for 3 miles) I'm going after the ever elusive 4 miles again.
Friday- 4 Miles. (NWM calls for 3 miles) I'd like to get used to 4-milers to build up to longer distances.
Saturday- 5 Miles. (NWM calls for 8 miles- say what?!) If I'm to catch up and be ready for my 10K at the end of this month, I've got to be serious about upping my mileage and being comfortable with long distances. I'm so scared of this run since I can barely run 4 miles as it is. I think my biggest challenge will be finding a good route since there's no way I trust myself to finish this distance on a treadmill. If I run around my neighborhood I'll also get in some hill running practice.
Sunday- Rest. If I end up doing that 5-Miler, I will most definitely be deserving of this rest day.
Total Miles: 17.5
No Training Schedule This Week
It's already Wednesday and I've fallen off the wagon so to speak. My friend being in town & Outside Lands last weekend took up a lot of time an energy. I plan to run now that things are back to normal (aside from me starting my new internship tomorrow and a Skype interview on Friday for a Grad Student Teaching Assistant position). I'll go back to posting a schedule (and hopefully sticking to it) on Monday.
Training Schedule for 8/4-8/10
This week calls for some switching around due to laziness and a busy schedule. I'm going to Outside Lands (an outdoor music festival in Golden Gate Park/San Francisco) this weekend so I doubt I'll have time to run Friday-Sunday. If I'd run yesterday, Tuesday, it would have set me up for a better chance of getting in my total miles without having to sacrifice running on a day of Outside Lands (OSL).
Monday- 3 Miles. I actually ended up doing over 4 miles on Monday since I skipped two longer runs on Friday and Saturday.
Tuesday- 5 Miles. I didn't run, I worked from 10-2 and like most other days I had every intention of working out once I got back but just decided to rest. I've had guests from out of town and have been enjoying hanging out with them but late nights and early mornings add up.
Wednesday- XT. I'm actually going to do my run today. I'm highly considering the Lululemon Berkeley Run Club. They have a 5-6 mile run... hopefully it's a 5 mile run tonight, if not I'll join the 3-4 group. I'm not ready for 6 miles just yet.
Thursday- Rest. No rest for the weary... okay since I'll be busy during the weekend I'll do 2 miles on this day to make up for Friday. (Friday calls for 3 miles, but I ran an extra mile on Monday).
Friday- 3 Miles. First day of OSL, no run for me this day.
Saturday- 5 Miles. Second day of OSL and also going to Watch the Read Live around 7pm. Again, no run.
Sunday- Rest. There aren't any acts at OSL that I want to see on this day until 3:50. Assuming I'm not dead tired, this will be the day to get in those last 5 miles from Saturday.
Total Miles: 17

When Life Gets in the Way of a Run
Friday & Saturday were both run days, for a total of 7 miles. Guess how many of those I completed... 0. I feel pretty guilty about it but I'm also nervous about how I'll be able to balance everything in a couple of weeks from now.
On Friday I worked a few hours in the morning and planned to run my miles after I got back home but I was exhausted from the day before and ended up taking a nap. I was so tired I didn't even want to head out to Daly City for my friend's dinner party. I ended up going and then met up with other friends in SF, didn't get back home until 2am. So plans for a morning run were pretty much nixed and I had to drive from Oakland to San Jose for my best friend's party she threw for her mom's birthday and then my 10 year high school reunion and back to my friend's parent's house again. I've never run more than 3.1 miles so a 7 mile run today is completely out of the question. But once it cools down I hope to get in as many miles as I can, hopefully I can break four miles soon.
I'm going to try not to beat myself up over getting off track on the first week of official training but I'm going to be proactive about taking better care of myself, learning to say no when I should, and learning how to balance my life roles & responsibilities better.
Wednesday XT
For XT I ended up walking the lake, which ended up being harder than I expected. Running two days in a row makes for a very sore gal. My friend and I walked the lake and also walked up and down Cleveland Cascade (a set of stairs near Lake Merritt) once. I've been planning to add stair reps at Cleveland Cascade eventually as a type of hill training.
After the lake I rested for a bit and then did two Blogilates videos, one for "hips, butts, and thighs" and the other was a five minute ab workout. So I cheated a bit since the total time wasn't 45 minutes. Eventually I'll be switching my training plan around to fit my schedule better and perhaps my XT day will coincide with a day that my gym has classes I actually like.
Today's Run (Day 2 of NWM Training Plan)
I did just a little under a 5K... I walked most of the way and had a 13:55 average pace. My legs are still pretty tired from yesterday, I probably should have used my foam roller last night before bed. I'll definitely be switching Tuesday's runs with Wednesday's cardio. Back-to-back running is pretty intense, especially with the mileage increasing so much.
