To Be Hero X: Top 10 Heroes’ Names in Chinese and English + Chinese Name Meanings and Abbreviations
Redoing my Name Meanings post to include additional info for the Top 10. This post will be updated as new info is revealed.
Names will be listed in this order: English, Chinese, Pinyin, and CN Abbreviation. The abbreviations are just for my own reference.
Last updated: May 18, 2025
1. X
We don’t know anything about him yet...
2. Queen / 女王 / Nǚ Wáng / NW
The pinyin for her name can also be typed as Nv Wang (because ǚ is hard to type)
The Chinese word for queen, but literally the characters mean “Female King.”
I like this choice of characters because there are other ways to write queen in Chinese, such as 王后 (wáng hòu, “behind the King”) or just 后 (hòu, behind). But TBHX said, nope, Queen isn’t just someone who is behind the #1. She’s a person by her own right. A true queen.
3. Dragon Boy / 梁龙 / Liáng Lóng / LL
Dictionary definition is “diplodocus,” which is a type of dinosaur. A big one. But literally, the name means “bridge dragon.”
4. Ghostblade / 默杀 / Mò Shā / MS
Literally, “Silent Kill.”
Fun fact: The number 4 in Chinese (四, sì) is often associated with death because it sounds close to the Chinese word for death, 死 (sǐ). And of course they’re putting the edgiest character on #4 😂
Mo Sha, my beloved, I can’t wait to meet you.
5. The Johnnies / 大小强 / Dà Xiǎo Qiáng / DXQ
Literally, “Big Little Strong” because there’s one Big (Dà) and one Little (Xiǎo).
It’s an unfortunate coincidence that 小强 (xiǎo qiáng) is also Chinese slang for cockroach 😔
6. Loli / 罗莉 / Luó Lì / L
Sorry Loli, but somebody already has the LL acronym. Now, let’s hope a character named only “L” doesn’t show up…
Her Chinese name is just a transliteration of her English name. Literally, the characters mean gauze/collect (罗) and jasmine (莉).
7. Lucky Cyan / 幸运青 / Xìngyùn Qīng / XyQ
Xingyun (幸运) is “lucky,” while Qing (青) refers to a color that can either be green or blue so it’s often translated as azure or cyan.
Interestingly, her official character quote is “I have my own color!”
8. Ahu / 阿虎 / Ā’Hǔ
No abbreviation coz his name is already very short
A (阿) is a prefix used before monosyllabic names to indicate familiarity, while Hu (虎) means… tiger.
Idk why he’s named tiger when he’s obviously a dog. He also likes eating cat food 💀
9. E-Soul / 魂电 / Hún Diàn / ES
Hun (魂) refers to the immortal soul (one that can be detached from the body), which is in contrast to the Po (魄, mortal soul attached to the body). Dian (电) means electric.
9.2. Yáng Chéng / 杨澄 / YC
Yáng 杨 means “poplar,” while Chéng 澄 means “limpid” or “to clarify/purify.”
10. Nice / 奈斯 / Nài Sī / OG Nice
Not really an abbreviation, but to differentiate the original Nice from the new Nice, the former will be referred to as OG Nice in my posts.
Nài Sī is just a transliteration of his English name. However, the character Nài 奈 alone means “how can one help.” It’s also used in expressions that convey frustration and futility, such as 无奈 (wú nài, helpless/without a choice) and 莫可奈何 (mò kě nàihé, to have no way out / nothing can be done).
Doomed character of all time 💀
10.2 Lín Líng / 林凌 / L0
Lín (林) means forest, while Líng (凌) means “to approach” or “rise high.” Very fitting name for the tenth-ranked hero signed with an agency called Treeman.
He’s abbreviated as L0 because the acronym LL is reserved for Liang Long and the word zero in Chinese is also pronounced líng. (Similar to how Director Li Haoling is often abbreviated as LH0)
And that’s it! Might make a version of this post for the supporting characters, but for now take this and go!

OMG JUST NOTICED THE WECHAT STICKER OF QUEEN NOMMING CYAN'S CHEEK IS NAMED 幸运亲(xìng yùn qīn = lucky kiss), which is a play on Lucky Cyan's chinese name (幸运青qīng)

Besides Queen wanting to establish rules vs Luo Li being sort of a rule breaker, another connection there would be Queen wanting to enter the Top 10 by 18(we don't know if she achieves that exactly at that time yet, but probably), and Luo Li being in the Top 10 at 18 years old
Then there's also the relationship with their dads who seem to both be strict with them, which they both react differently to
If we continue the pattern of the next hero making appearances in/having some sort of link to the current hero, I'm kind of intrigued to see how Queen's and Luo Li's stories intertwine?
Given how Queen appears to be an authoritarian stickler for rules (though that definitely isn't her entire character), whereas Luo Li is something of a rule breaker/rebel. (or so she seems. In her PV, at least, where she disobeys(?) Professor Luo (99% sure it's her dad, same Luo character (罗)), and uses her mecha arm for the punching machine thing- I don't really consider it cheating btw since she probably worked hard to make that arm herself, but it sure is an unconventional way to beat the game)
