@taylorswift The horses at the Melbourne Cup (and other horse races across the nation/world) are absolutely pushed beyond their limits, all in the name of gambling.
They die of cardiac arrest, haemorrhaging, ruptured aortas, and broken necks, legs, or pelvises, and that's without mentioning the thousands of horses bred for the industry who don't make the grade and are abandoned, neglected, or sent to slaughter.
This is such a highly controversial day in Australia, with people protesting the race across the nation. Unlike human athletes who can consent to pushing their bodies to beyond their limits for a race, these horses can’t. And as a result, hundreds have died from human greed.
Please, please reconsider performing at the Melbourne Cup.
