it was inevitable that i was going to post this art of doom and despairโฆ hereโs some lore drop!
tw for death, suicidal ideation but nothing worse than what would be in the actual game
how i integrated saffron into episode 4 was he opted to go with clementine and jane, mostly out of want to look for nick. when they stumble upon nick, saffron crouches down and says, โyou werenโt supposed to be temporary,โ or something along the lines, and the player is given the choice to leave saffron or convince him to come along. during this, saffron is quietly asking just for a few minutes.
if you click โsave saffron,โ the player then has to convince saffron to keep going, and if you do, saffron requests to put nick down himself. allowing him to do thanks the best decision, but you can do it yourself and make him upset. saffron will always take nickโs hat and wear it after this.
saffron doesnโt really survive too much longer. he is the person who convinces sarah to come with, making it so itโs impossible to leave her behind. when they are back with the rest of the group he is in too much grief to be very useful, but he tries his best to comfort sarah because they have a bond. he inevitably dies during the shootout with arvoโs group, being shot in the leg and the head.
if you choose โleave him,โ the player allows saffron to have a few minutes and clementine continues walking and looking around with jane. the entire scene with clementine and jane finding luke and sarah happens without him. the four/three of them return to check on saffron, and they find him dead with a bite to the neck from walker nick, slowly already turning. they are all in too much of a hurry to put either of them down. the site traumatizes sarah further if you have her with you. saffron purposefully let nick turn him because of how much grief he was feeling, and how suicidal he was anyway. so the two of them are tangled together as walkers until someone kills then both.
