OC name Null, one word, no second name, I have a terrible habit of doing this and a tiefling is enough of an excuse. maybe he has a surname?? somewhere?? who knows not me. His name is Null because I love nominative determinism and he's an abjurer

Does your OC have any nervous tics or self-soothing habits? I feel like he's a mutterer, talks to himself when he's deep in study or trying to solve a problem. Little finger movements, somatic tics from magic casting that are somewhat unconscious now

Let's say your OC got kidnapped. What would save them? Knock, Mind Spike, Misty Step, run like hell

If your OC has a love interest, are they opposite or rather similar? Married to his research, we'll see what might happen during campaign??

Is there a story behind making your OCs? What inspired you Null is for a Curse of Strahd campaign next year, but kind of coalesced in my brain from never having played a tiefling or a wizard, and feeling the call to something that had the potential to eat my entire brain. which it has so far, thankfully. I have the mental bandwidth to devote to something complicated so I'm going to go all in (watch him die three sessions in and I have to roll out a backup character lmao)

3. weapon of choice? any particular reason they chose their weapon?

SPELLS PEW PEW okay technically he has a quarterstaff rn but I think melee fighting is his last resort HOWEVER I do have magic item staff plans for later, waggles eyebrows

4. how crafty/resourceful are they?

I think very, within a specific specialty (spells). The way he understands magic he can kludge together components to make something work even when conditions aren't ideal, because he understands the effects and parameters. he is, however, ultimately a somewhat sheltered academic so he might be less resourceful on the "food and lodgings" practical side of things lmao

5. how do they typically dress? does their wardrobe lean more towards practicality or aesthetics?

practical but aesthetic, really, he has a cultivated look (greys, blacks, silver, purple accents) but he's not ostentatious or flashy. if he has to pick between the two he'll go practical, but he likes it to fit his aesthetic

10. if they wear jewelry, what kind? do they prefer silver or gold? do they have a favorite gem?

silver!! as a common spell component particularly for lower level abjuration spells it's useful to have plenty on him. he wears a lot of rings, at least one of which is literally just silver wire wound into a band so he can unwind it and use it for an Alarm spell. as for gems, he will grumble often about wizardry's reliance on diamond dust for components. I think personally, just for looks, he likes a smoky quartz or a labradorite.

28. how do they show that they care about someone? how do they express that they don't like someone?

I don't think he's had a lot of people he's close to, but if he gives someone something - especially something made, doubly so something useful, that's a clear sign he likes them. if he doesn't like someone they'll know lmao

30. do they smell like anything notable?

ozone and ocean, which I think is tied to the magic, that burnt salt-silver tang on the back of the tongue. leather. a hint of some kind of spice. great now I have to go through my perfume samples

he definitely comes off as a know-it-all bitch on first meeting, very quiet and judgemental. actually he's just a huge nerd with One special interest and if you get him talking about magic he won't shut up

Null has what he considers a relatively ordinary concern with his looks. He is lying, the goth bitch. He has white hair - actually let me just slap a picrew on here his vibe is unmistakeable lmao

What you can't see there is he has a long thin braid down his back as well. I am a simple fool who loves a white haired anime protagonist and hair that can whip around dramatically while casting spells PEW PEW

12. how long have they been around? do you know their birthday? is their birthday the day you made them or another day? what do they think of celebrating birthdays?

I don't think his birthday is the day I made him, I don't know quite when it is but I always tend to put oc birthdays in winter for some reason. in-universe he is a goddamn grad student so I think he's probably 24 maybe??? he never planned to leave the university at all but lmao shit happens

18. their opinion on lying, stealing, and killing?

if it's in the name of knowledge he sees no issue with any of the above. he's a firmly neutral alignment nerd (probably neutral good, because I like being good, but his good might need to develop over time lmao)

mostly he is on the side of expanding knowledge whatever the human cost. he does, however, draw the line at gathering knowledge for personal gain. knowledge should be shared not hoarded

24. do they have any creative hobbies? (art, writing, music, etc)

29. are they associated with any particular element (air, earth, fire, water)?

Null is a tiefling wizard, specifically an abjuration wizard so while he doesn't particularly wield elements I think if I had to associate him with one it would be either air or water? actually, probably if we expand the list the association would be metal. A lot of wizarding magic, particularly abjurative spells, require silver or iron as material components so I think he wears a lot of little pieces of silver wire and jewellery to fulfil that

32. do they have any habits that aren't particularly self-destructive, just maybe odd?
