Guinevere never thought she would be afraid of a piece of plastic; but here she was sitting on the bathroom floor, utterly terrified of the plastic stick on the sink. She allowed herself a dry laugh. Peter would laugh so hard at the thought of her being scared of plastic.
She tapped her fingers against her thighs in an attempt to dispel some of the anxious energy coursing through her.
This was not something they had talked about. Fuck, she wasn't even sure if this was something Peter wanted. Her breathing was shallow and uneven but not panicky. Nope she was definitely not panicking.
The timer went off startling Guin from her thoughts. She didn't want to look at it. Well, she did but her anxiety over the result was dominating. She took a steadying breath, grabbed the stick from the sink and focused on the result window.
Peter's voice came from the living room as the front door snapped shut. Her head snapped up as she hadn't moved from her place on the bathroom floor. She scrambled to her feet, haphazardly shoving the test into the bin.
She checked herself over in the mirror, took a calming breath and exited the bathroom, following the clatter of plates. She found Peter in the kitchen.
He smiled when he spotted her. "There you are, are you ready for the party?"
She blinked at him a couple of times. "Party?"
Peter raised an eyebrow. "The welcome party Althea and Az are having for Puss."
"Oh" Right, that party, and with Althea hosting alcohol would be abundant. "I just need to change"
Peter gave her a bright smile, moving to wrap his arms around her waist and pull her in for a kiss that left her breathless. "I just have to shower and then we can go."
He had already disappeared into the bathroom when she'd processed what he'd said. She tensed, expecting to her him call her name because he had found the test. The sound of the shower starting eased her worry as she moved to the bedroom to change.
Guin bounced a little on her toes, full of nervous energy once more. Peter chuckled and wrapped an arm around her. "I thought I was the hyperactive one." Guin simply poked her tongue out at him.
Althea opened the door and there were hugs and happy greetings all around. She led the couple into the kitchen, offering them both a drink. Peter happily accepted, Guin however declined.
"No thank you, I'm fine for the moment"
Guin mingled throughout the evening, sticking reasonably close to Peter, using multiple excuses to deny alcohol.
"One of us has to make sure we get home properly"
"I haven't been feeling well"
Part way through the night, she found herself alone in the kitchen with Azria. He lent against the sink, sipping a beer, looking over Guin almost critically as she helped herself to another soda.
"How long have you known?" He asks quietly.
He gave her a warm smile and set his beer to the side. "You haven't had any alcohol tonight, you've barely left Peter's side and you're carrying yourself differently, more carefully. I take it you haven't told Peter yet?"
Guin's eyes widened as she understood what he was saying. She bit her lip. "I only found out a few hours ago, I- I'm not sure how to tell him. I don't know how he's going to react, it's not even something we've talked about" She hugged herself, looking away from Azria.
He wrapped a comforting arm around her shoulders. "Talk to him, he might surprise you." He gave her a gentle squeeze, picked his beer back up, clapping Peter on the shoulder as he passed him on the way out of the kitchen.
Peter grinned at Guin. "Here you are. I'd wondered where you'd gone." He wrapped her in a warm hug. "Are you ok? You haven't seemed quite yourself tonight." He buried his face in her neck, ghosting a gentle kiss or two there.
She hummed slightly, "I am some what tired, Perhaps we should head home?" She was definitely understating things, she felt utterly exhausted.
"Ok" He kissed the top of her head and laced his fingers through hers, leading her back through the party to find their hosts and say goodnight.
Once they were home, Guin changed into her pyjamas and busied herself with washing her face while Peter brushed his teeth. She decided it was best to just say it outright.
"Mmm?" He responded through a mouthful of toothbrush.
She took a calming breath. "I'm pregnant" She bit her lip, not looking at him, just listening to him finish brushing his teeth, tapping her fingers anxiously on the counter.
"Is that what took you so long earlier? When I got home?" He asked wiping toothpaste from his chin.
"I may have been freaking out"
"That explains what I found before my shower. " He glanced to the bathroom bin. "I didn't understand what it meant so I didn't mention it."
"Ok, how- how do you feel about it?" She tugged at her pyjama top, remaining where she was despite how desperately she wanted comfort. She hated how hard he was to read sometimes.
Peter scratched the back of his head. "I'm a little scared honestly, but it still hasn't really sunk in" He turned to look at her and smiled. "Come on, your turn to choose what we watch." He wrapped an arm around her shoulders and guided her to their bedroom.
His indifference worried her a little, this wasn't something to be ignored. She felt him sit her on the bed and climb in under the blankets. She shook her head and climbed in next to him, scrolling through and choosing a movie for them to watch. Guin rested her head on Peter's chest and he pressed a kiss to the top of her head. They didn't need to think about it tonight, there was a little time.
