Good news for ancient woodland, but work still to do
The Government’s proposals to update English planning policy include a huge improvement for the protection for ancient woodland. Thanks to our campaigning and our supporters’ tireless efforts the current proposals set out that only ‘wholly exceptional’ development will be permitted in ancient woodland. This is fantastic news.
Unfortunately and inexplicably, while improving protection for ancient woodland the Government chose not to extend this to all of England's aged and veteran trees, separating the two habitats for the first time in the National Planning Policy Framework.
The fight for our ancients continues!
