believe it or not, dionisia wasn’t a fan of classical music. there was no calm or tranquility she found in it. of course, appearances needed to be maintained, need the sort of constant upkeep as her most finicky plants. she’d spent the break with a drink in hand and engaged in the same mind-numbing small talk that made up most of her social life. now, she made her way back to her seats, dreading the boredom that would set in when the next act started and grateful for the break in her own performance in equal parts. “excuse me.” irritation was stomped down, buried under a voice made soft. “i believe the performance is starting up again soon.” 

“you look lovely, my dear.” isadora said, grin spread across her face. it was a genuine complaint, none of the faux-politeness someone else might offer. the night was still young, the intermission between the acts having just started. “whoever made  your outfit did a wonderful job. and that color suits you so well.”

it was a vague wave of annoyance that overcame her at the sight of one evelyn weiss. there was no particular reason. if dionisia racked her brain, she would come up blank on anything the other had done in particular. still, her presence grated. running into her at the opera wasn’t all too surprising but dionisia still surpressed a grimace when she saw her. “ms. weiss, enjoying your night so far?”
