Sometimes the people we admire, those that appear to have everything, are facing battles mentally that are unfathomable. This touches me because I’m often guilty of thinking that cash is king; That the solution to every problem is to make more money; That as my income continues to increase, any made up problems in my head will undoubtedly fade away. Among the bags that sit on my shelves mostly unused, are three Kate Spade novelty bags that I adore. I look forward to walking in Kate Spade stores to see which novelty bag is new to the collection. I’m afraid now I won’t be able to step foot in one of these stores without being reminded of tragedy. Maybe I need to be reminded. Maybe it’s important to note that someone who had a wildly successful career (having sold to Neiman Marcus Group for $125M) and a seemingly perfect family (with a husband and business partner for 20+ years and a daughter whom I’m sure will miss her every day) still didn’t think her life was good enough. Happiness can’t be tied to things. Happiness comes from within and we each have to figure out what happiness means to us.
