Krumping I feel like is a style of hip hop we see pretty often but I also feel like we don’t talk about as much as breaking or popping. The first time I ever saw cramping was actually on So You Think You Can Dance when one dancer “specialized” you could say in this style of hip hop. At first this style of dance seems very aggressive and physical in the movement quality. In the reading I really enjoyed reading about the progression that krumping had. Starting off with this clown makeup then transitioning to this tribal face paint to show how serious these dancer were. Another thing I found interesting was how this was almost the only style that was as sexualized as the other styles of hip hop. The last thing that I really liked in this reading was how it talked about Christinas music video Dirrty. Least to say I LOVE this song and now whenever I hear it I’m going to try krumping to it.
*bass* *bass* *bass* is what I think when I hear the word house in relation to dancing or music. I thought it was really interesting hearing what the author had to say in relation to raves. I have been to a few EDM shows and music festivals ( RAVE GIRL ALLERT) and I really enjoy this type of music, and something that made me think back at was when the author said how ravers can maintain this sense of introverted concentration while in a crowd full of people dancing. While in opposite of the club and house scene where they are there to dance with other people and feed off of the vibes they’re giving off. I try to think that if I’m at a show or festival I’m there for the vibes too, but looking back I’m really only there for myself and the DJ playing. Of course I’m with my friends, but in the moment its just me and the music and thats it. I also love the idea that house was made to be danced too. This idea that a certain type of music was made for people to express themselves through movement warms my heart. Another thing that I really like about the house community, is this idea that you don't say what you do, or even your full name, you just dance and base people on how they dance. The idea that who you are outside of the club or house doesn't matter when your dancing and feeling the bass on your body. I love that idea for any style of dance. It shouldn't matter who you are outside of the studio but who you are in that moment is what really matters.
