I really like the AU where Grace and Simon worked together before being sent off on the Mail Mary together with Simon as an ex-fighter pilot for the military and Grace is still a middle school teacher. I like to imagine that within the eight to nine years of working with Eva and the Petrova task force the two of them became very very close friends and started dating within that time and were both consulted about being sent on the Hail Mary. I think that Simon also probably would’ve been plotting a future with him and Grace together (engagement and marriage and stuff like that), so with the news that him and Grace are being sent to die on a suicide mission, he’d propose to him and ask Grace if it was okay if they acted like they where married just for a little bit.
