I love your drawings of Dooku, Jocasta and Sifo so much, so I'm wondering what piece of media you base their characterisation around! I've not interacted much with the extended universe/legends, what is it that made you fall in love with these characters as a group so much?
Hey there friend :D
Dookuās characterization is based on a whole mess of different things. Jude Watsonās Legacy of the Jedi was huge for me because we get a few padawan chapters (which I ate up of course), but then we went and did the whole āQui-Gon looked at Dooku and realized he didnāt love his masterā because he HAS to be aloof and unlikeable because heās going to be a bad guy in Attack of the Clones /s but that was all we had until Yoda: Dark Rendezvous came out. Iāve already gone on about that book recently, but Stewartās characterizations are šš so good. I was late to the Dooku: Jedi Lost party, and the screenplay thing was kind of difficult for me to really get over the entire time I read it, but OBVIOUSLY it was a delight to read Scottās explorations of Dooku and his relationships while treating him like a whole character instead of āGuy Who Trained Qui-Gon and Will be Evil Somedayā. Iām also just a huge Christoper Lee fan, so a lot of how I characterize him is just based on the way he acts. He has such a good >:( face and when he wasnāt playing a villain or monster, he was usually playing some side character who will get annoyed at something and go >:( so I put him in a lot of Situations where he can go >:(
Jocasta is basically not in anything except for prequels-era stuff, so there was nothing really to go off in terms of who she was before she was a 70-something year old woman. I remember looking her up on Wookieepedia all the time wondering if there was anything I missed or forgot, but other than a few lines about her being a Consular and joining the Exploration Corps we had nothing. We pretty much still have nothing lol. So when I started really drawing her, I knew I was gonna be putting her in Situations where Dooku would probably be doing some variation of >:( but I didnāt want her to be some cool, collected foil for Dooku, I also wanted her to go >:( So theyāre usually in some sort of competition with each other, unless thereās something external making them both go >:(
Sifo-Dyas wasnāt explicitly, canonically the same age as Dooku and Jocasta initially (that I remember), and until Dooku: Jedi Lost came out, I think I always assumed he was Qui-Gonās age, or a bit younger. Also worth noting Iāve had these guys running around in my brain for EVER and I had been posting drawings for years already when DJL came out. There are some pretty significant timeline shakeups that book introduced and canonized, so initially I let it pass me by, I wasnāt posting very actively around when it came out either. By the time the Star Wars Fixation came back in full force and I started posting pretty regularly again, there were these fabulous folks on here with pickaxes and big feelings for Sifo-Dyas. I was obviously excited that we had another blorbo, so I finally got around to reading DJL and, pun intended, I see the visionāØMy characterization of Sifo 100% has just developed from interactions on Tumblr XD we all sort of just pass him around in a circle because heās great.
OH I should mention James Luceno. Galaxy brain to have the three of them (plus Qui-Gon) fucking MEET DARTH PLAGUEIS on Serenno of all places. HUGE. Actually come to think of it, thats probably where it started. The doomed gang meeting their doom. FUCKING TASTY
