So there are a couple different ways to judge whether or not something is anime
Country of origin, drawing style, etc.
but today I want to look at style of animation.
Now anime originally got its start by using techniques that made it cheap enough that it could regularly be put on Tv. Repeated animation, only moving certain parts in the frame while the rest are still shots, not fully animating backgrounds and instead turning them into simplified repeating frames etc.
The first big one was Astroboy back in the 50s.
Now around the same time something similar was happening in the USA. Using limited animation to make it cheap enough to regularly be put on Tv. Using repeating backgrounds, only moving certain parts of the frame, using repeated animation on the characters. And the first big company to become famous for this was
Hanna Barbera
In conclusion, if you judge anime by animation style, Hanna Barbera is more anime than The Last Airbender. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
