its so weird that im able to feed myself every day and use the bathroom and walk around and go to sleep
it just happens like blinking or breathing
when i look at sealions and pelicans and seagulls they are alive with activity. eating food and making noises at each other and fighting and settling in to sleep. i see this and know that approximately 0% of what they do goes towards building a more prosperous and enlightened society.
i wonder how much noisy, animated, communicative things humans do amount to nothing more than waste heat. static on the line, communicating nothing new under the sun. advancing our civilization no more than the squawks of a seagull advances theirs.
although, a lot of our squawks do end up ratcheting forward human civilization because of Who We Are As A Species. most of humanity really likes the part of life where you act like egyptian fruit bats. whats the point of advanced civilization if we cant have fun, huh?
《the researchers were able to classify more than 60% of the bats’ sounds into four contexts:
(1) squabbling over food
(2) jostling over position in their sleeping cluster
(3) protesting over mating attempts
(4) arguing when perched in close proximity to each other》
