In Norway's capital of Oslo Detective Angella Månelys is frustrated. The investigation she was a part of is going so badly, that she is being sent back to the department she was loaned from. When she visits her old team, a chance look at a fresh set of files piques her interest. A young woman seems to be in desperate trouble, a case the likes of which she prefers anyway. When Angella looks closer at the case of Catherina Weber, she realizes more is going on than a simple interrupted suicide. Angella needs to get Catherina out of the hospital and to safety; to a place safer than prison. Then she remembers her former mentee who fled the city and her old life a year ago. She and her team form a plan to save Catherina and to figure out what’s going on, fighting bureaucracy, her own family problems and the shadows behind the truth all the while.

Companion fic to Polar Night/Midnight Sun

I'm once again a part of this years SPOP Big Bang, this time with a companion fic to my entry last year, which you may also want to read. So many talented writers and artists have combined their power to deliver some absolute bangers to you and I hope you give us a view. <3 check @spopbigbang for more and more updates!

This year I have been teamed up with @diaspro-back-here who is a blast to work with and whose enthusiasm is infectious!

My fic this year is called *Drawing Arctic Circles* . Join me for my first attempt to write a crime-thriller type story set in Norway's capital Oslo, as special agent Angella crosses paths with a mysterious girl and slowly unravells the mystery of what happened to her and how she is linked to her so far fruitless larger investigation. Or "what happens on Angella's end during Polar Night/Midnight Sun?"

Angella observed herself while watching Catherina. She probably should feel bad about it, because there was an air of impropriety about it, but she did not. In fact, she felt fire kindling inside her, burning away the shame of not achieving anything during her PST investigation. The girl looked tiny in her hospital bed. The arms, one bandaged and stitched, the other one hosting two IV lines, looked so fragile. Her features would have looked sharp but under the hospital lighting she looked sickly and hollowed out. Her face, deep in the slumber of anesthesia, spoke of profound weariness, if not physical pain.   

“She looks younger than she is,” Julia murmured.

“Not just younger. See those fingers and those cheeks?” There was a hint of blue around the finger joints and the hollowness of the cheeks hinted at more than one missed meal. 

Not much more needed to be said. Kelly couldn’t give them all the details officially, at least not yet, but she had seen too many young women with eating disorders, or a history of substance abuse.

They looked at Catherina for another minute, watching the small breaths she took as the anesthesia worked its way through her system. Then Julia gave Angella a nudge and they went outside, nodding to Kelly who had her duties to go back to.

“Let us know when they transfer her to psych, will you?”

Casually breaking rules. One day this would backfire, but it wasn’t going to be today.

The doctor just nodded and hurried off, deeper into the labyrinth that was the hospital.
