norman bates & mary loomis aka "I would die and I absolutely would kill for you"
an avenue of normary I've yet to reckon until now is the fact that mary technically owes norman her life... if norman hadn't killed her aunt, her parents would have never met and she would've never been born.
I can see this going one of two ways - the first being that mary hates norman because her being born (to her aunt's boyfriend nonetheless) and her mother losing her sister caused her mother to take all of her grief out on mary in the form of abuse and trauma all throughout her childhood and again - none of this would've happened if it hadn't been for norman doing what he did,
the second - that the fact she wouldn't be here if not for norman is requisite to her seemingly unending devotion to him that she was willing to forsake her own mother for, and that she can comprehend and empathize with why/how norman did what he did even if she doesn't necessarily condone it - because lila's abuse of her is redolent of norman's own childhood abuse including lila using mary as her own personal vehicle and seemingly not caring about her safety (who the hell lets their kid shack up with a serial killer...?) because lila is a coward (this manifests all the way back in original psycho, when sam was the one who did all the work to both interrogate and incapacitate norman and she just stood there & did nothing), and of course lila not caring about or listening to or apprehending mary's feelings and being concerned with nothing but her own personal agenda as it suits her, not her daughter, even if that personal agenda is puerile.
and given mary's reaction to accidentally killing dr. raymond (which was none whatsoever other than her being tearful that norman saw it / that she thought it was norman and the prospect of killing norman terrified her, not that it actually happened or that she killed someone at all), I wouldn't be surprised if mary had much more dark thoughts, specifically about killing someone, hyper-specifically her mother, lingering beneath the surface that her subconscious secretly commended norman for carrying out and wished she could do, too

things I’m currently thinking about (with regards to psycho 2 and 3 concatenated with each other)
that for majority of psycho 2 norman wore a T-shirt and a light dress shirt signifying his freedom (especially with mary and the fact he was comfortable around her) from ‘mother,’ but in psycho 3, he double-layered himself with an additional dress shirt and an overcoat again (signifying his being metaphorically trapped in a cage once more — especially with the weight of emma spool’s murder looming over him. this is compounded by the fact that he couldn’t kiss maureen because he also felt mentally restricted), redolent of how he dressed in psycho 1 where he felt more burdened by his mother than ever
that maureen is the antithesis of mary externally — blonde and feminine compared to dark-haired and butch & grungy. but maureen had a much darker inner turmoil and she’s much more rigid and stern and austere in contrast with mary who was happy-go-lucky, bubbly, free-spirited and lighthearted
