It’s very easy to forget ( due to hisrefinement and the 500 years that he has spent living as a vampire ) thatArmand is bodily in his late teens, and he has not matured much mentally beyondthose years. He’s still prone to committing impulsive and extreme acts withoutconsidering the consequences. Often, this behaviour is fuelled by jealousy ( aswas the case with his murder of the young vampire Claudia ) or pettiness ( e.g.Armand chopping off Nicki’s hands because he was becoming increasingly annoyedwith Nicki’s violin-playing ). Armand seems to fluctuate between extremehedonism and zealotry, moderation and excess. He needs a constant companion to balancehis behaviour. Ideally, this companion needs to be one who is either far more responsible than Armand ( like Louis ), who can monitor Armand’s behaviour, or one who is more disastrous ( like Daniel ), who forces Armand to behave better. Armand should not be exposed to Lestat for extended periods of time.

    in hindsight that i feel great might not have been completely truthful and coming off of anxiety pills you’ve been on for twenty five years may, in fact, have some truly terrible side effects. it doesn’t help that every sound is amplified and she can hear her own heartbeat in her ears. she wants to bury her head in the sand and never come up again, but she doesn’t have sand. instead, she has the cool tiled floor of the bathroom to ease her fevered brow and the companionship of the toilet bowl for the turbulent contents of her stomach. neither is helping, but they are there for her and that’s saying something.

Lestat is kind of inherently a bad influence on just about everyone, but he has a bit more powerful of an influence on Armand than he does the average vampire. Armand does have a very bad tendency to sort of idolise Lestat, despite knowing that Lestat is a bad influence. And that is very dangerous.

A very brief conversation with Lestat upon their first meeting was enough to drive Armand to kill the entire coven of the Children of Satan for a chance to stay with Lestat. And in Memnoch the Devil, Lestat telling Armand of his experience of Heaven and Hell was enough for Armand to try to immolate himself in the sunlight on a chance to prove a miracle.

If you thought that this would be anyone other than our beloved Vanessa Ives, Portia, I’m going to fly over there and I’m going to chuck inflatable legos at you while robbing you blind of any and all chocolate you keep around you. Okay, slightly dramatic on my end, but you know what I mean, I hope. <3 But in all truthfulness, I seem to have a number of muses who aren’t very interested in the socializing aspect of life unless it’s needed (Jace comes to mind before anyone else, especially if really focusing on ‘disinterest’), or aren’t in situations where searching for new friends is wanted, needed or easily accomplished due to circumstances.

oh, weren’t they all a bunch of disappointments: klaus and his wasted potential, zahid and his ineffectual power, and vanya … oh, vanya. a trio to bear witness to, for sure, but zahid and vanya had gone on to fulfill their careers … and where had it all landed klaus ?

though he had never harboured much affection for any of his siblings ( apart from yusuf, his twin and blood brother ), he felt a great swell of pity for klaus. had zahid not gone down the paths he had taken, wouldn’t he be the same way ? what was it that klaus had once wanted to be, even … ? shame stung his ears at not knowing such a basic basic fact about someone with whom he’d spent nearly 20 years of his life.
