When people first met Vik, they assumed he was just a very strange man. Jayce thought he was just a strange man, a little snippy but softer in private, witty, occasionally complained about men, but he was brilliant and Jayce admired him so.
It took Jayce visiting Vik at his home for him to realize that his partner, whom heβd known for months, who he had worked with days on end for weeks, wasnβt a strange man at all.
Vik had sent a message that he was very ill and couldnβt possibly manage to get to the lab, he could barely get dressed, so Jayce brought him snacks and medicinal drinks, even having went and found a nice new blanket for his dear partner.
Vik opened the door after a long while, the heavy thud of his crutch against the floor slow and efforted, wearing a pink nightgown, white lace at the high collar, sleeves, and lining the bottom. Jayce thought it was strange sure but when he really looked there were two somethings he had never seen before.
βYouβre a girl?β Jayce asked, a little louder than heβd intended. Vik rolled his eyes and moved to sit down in his apartment Jayce tailing him closely.
βIβve been a girl for a while Jayce, my whole life, in fact. Youβve not noticed?β Vik said as he- she sat down on her couch. Jayce stared at his partner, blinking dumbly. Heβs been calling her a man, he told his ma that his new partner was a man!
βYouβve never corrected me! You never even- how was I- you look like a man in your uniform!β He said and then blew out a laugh at the ridiculous situation he was in.
βI donβt correct people because I do not care what they think. People using the wrong words for me, for assuming Iβm a man, it doesnβt make me less of a woman. Do you think differently of me now?β Vik questioned and Jayce stared at the wall where heβd turned away from her.
βNever Vik. Iβd never think differently of you, no matter whatβs in your pants or anything else.β Jayce said sincerely turning to look right into her eyes. Vik smiled and nodded.
βGreat. Now make me some food and stop thinking about my vagina.β She said and Jayce broke out laughing. She was an odd woman.
