Right after the election, I commented on a friend’s fb post about the protests that were happening in every major city, and was quickly ganged up on by a few trump supporters who were previous co workers of hers. One of these people was a United States Marine, who, without hesitation, told me to “Get on the train” with my friends and neighbors. When I called him cruel for encouraging violence towards the most vulnerable people in society, he wrote this super-rapey sounding comment: “You haven’t seen the tip of my cruelty”. When I told him he should be more aware of how he’s representing himself as a Marine, he started tagging his friends into the post in efforts to harass me further. Feeling increasingly unsafe, I just stopped commenting. 

The day after this happened, one of these trolls found out where I worked and sent a threatening email to my boss, trying to get me fired for things I had never said or done. 

She wrote:

I was wondering if ********* works there as she told me that she refuses to work for a white man, and all white men are racist. She told my boyfriend’s cousin on social media that she would burn down his home purely because he is white, then littered Facebook with Pro-Nazi materials. Is this what your company represents? I can send you the screen shots if needed. Lana.

Lucky for me, my boss knows me well enough to know that this email was total garbage. He knows i’m not a Nazi who hates white people. Side note…That would be a pretty weird thing to be, yeah? 

Regardless, I de-activated my fb account for a while and took some time away from social media to recoup.

What is sadder than a US Marine, who has sworn to protect the citizens of America, threatening a woman online, telling her to “get on a train” with other Americans?
