Ponyboy having a heart too big for his body, so he tries to act 'tough' to hide it (of course that doesn't work)

Now hear me out, ponyboy doesn't like kids, but he doesn't hate them. He just finds em real annoying but what kid isn't?

He's definitely the kind of guy that will be forced to babysit and doesn't like it but somehow he's the favorite person the kid he's babysitting is.

Like they start to notice how pony looks at everyone like they're a ghost.

Noticing how pony wouldn't stare at dally anymore than 3 seconds or less

Or how he always looks like on the verge of tears whenever he See's Johnny

Or how he doesn't fight back as much as he used to whenever he gets scolded

And pony looks like hell. His hair is a mess, eyebags and pale like he's been scared half to death and the gang's like genuinely concerned, because who hurt him. Did some idiot hurt pony? Like what happened and why? Did they do something?

And they're just confused and concern while pony is just stressing over saving Johnny and dally and trying to avoid any deaths (including Bob Sheldon.)
