a summary of wandering strangers as best i can manage while no one is looking
the premise is genuinely really simple - it's a decades-long love/hate story of hamilton and burr as they crossed paths over the span of 30 - 35 years. it is told in alternating perspectives from both men (third person limited), starting in about 1770 and stretching until about 1804. (for the impatient and curious, they finally meet in person in chapter nine). i've done my best to make it as easily navigable as possible (years in the chapters so you have SOME idea of what to expect), but it's long, i know.
having known each other for the majority of their adult lives, and potentially even as youths, pre revolutionary war, makes theirs SUCH an interesting dynamic in the myth of the founding to me, and imo provides excellent interpersonal drama and conflict to push forward a love/hate narrative about a relationship that extended beyond "normalcy" - ie, there were both ideological and psychosexual components to it that neither of them really knew what to do with, but at the same time, couldn't shrug off or ignore. [there is also, eventually, a physical element to their relationship in this story that is a narrative invention - obviously (...?unless...?)] anyway, that they were equally ambitious and charismatic, oftentimes in completely opposite ways that go beyond just politics, during a moment in history that was pivotal and paradigm shifting, and regularly in close contact with one another whether socially or professionally or otherwise just endlessly fascinates me so that's what the fic is mostly focused on. the internal, psychonanlytical potential is huge as well. i want to understand why hamilton acted the way he did about burr, and i want to understand why burr allowed it for so long.
as far as characters go, you can expect all the usual suspects. there will of course be elements of different important relationships that each of them had, but this is at its core a story about them as a unit, and their relationship will take priority. i tried to tag ships as honestly as possible. as stated, there will be narrative inventions for the sake of a good story and to fill in gaps in my knowledge, and there will probably be a few anachronistic mistakes due to human error (which i'll do my best to correct as i go along) - but this will basically follow the timeline of irl history and is going to end exactly how you think it will. the best part is getting there.
what ships exactly, i'm scared. romantically: lams, hamliza, burr/theo p (whatever we're calling that), but mostly hamburr. infidelity abounds and none of them have any kind of happy ending. only one is cosmically linked as punishment.
you messed up [historical event]. i'm sorry :( if it makes you feel any better i plan on working on this for one million years and i'll probably fix it at some point.
why didn't you just post this in the summary box for the fic? if i saw someone waffling like this on ao3 i'd steal their lunch money.
what are the smut chapters please. as of now the madness begins to consume them in chapter forty-seven.
did you make a spotify playlist like a little wiener. yeah >:^) i like to choose songs that correspond to the years i'm writing, but 200 years later. so, 1976 for 1776, 1985 for 1785, 1990 for 1790, and so on. it's here, already in chronological order for the most part, but no where near finished
i only read finished fics. see you in another 10 years!
