Notes On A Conditional Form; The Most Polarizing 1975 Release Ever
This is the most polarizing album release by the 1975, along with being the most experimental. The album contains punk, shoegaze, dreampop, EDM and more.
My favorite tracks on here are Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America, I Think There's Something You Should Know, Playing On My Mind, and Then Because She Goes.
The things I love about the album is how experimental and diverse it was. Jumping between genre to genre is both a strength and a weakness here. While it makes the album very diverse and feel different, it makes it feel scattered and lost. The electronic moments are heavy and prevalent, with glitchy sounding effects and synths, reminiscent of some moments from A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships. "Glitches" seem to be a theme on the record, with some tracks having small hints of synths every now and then like the record is falling apart and is distorting.
The main issue with the record that I have is that it's too long. Having No Head, What Should I Say, and Bagsy Not In Net should have been left out of the album. They feel like filler tracks and are unneeded. Tracks like The End and Streaming feel too out of place this early in the album. There needs to be a better transition between People and Frail State of Mind since they're two very different songs with two very different emotions.
I believe that if Matty released some of the more experiemental tracks like Yeah I Know as a single, people would know what to expect, and the album wouldn't have the division it does.
Overall, this album to me is a 7/10. I enjoyed it, but with it's moments of bloat and disorder, it makes not end up being a 9/10, or even a 10/10.
This is just my opinion, and I would love to hear yours. Did you enjoy it? Why? Did you not enjoy it, and hope they never release something like it again? Why?
they really said ‘fuck genres,’ huh?
I'm listening to NOCAF and "Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America" made me cry what the fuck Matty you got me fucked up with this album
