I have decided
That a tri just isn't in the cards for me this year. While I'm bummed that another year will go by without completing a tri, I know that it's the right decision.Â
The main reason I've decided not to do it is because I'm scared of the swim. And it's not the "I'm scared of this attainable challenge", it's the "I'm legit afraid I might drown because I have not trained my swimming enough".Â
So, while I feel a little defeated by this, I can't be down on myself. I know I'm doing the safest thing. And I really am going to work on my swimming this year. I am going to do a tri next year. But this year is not the year for it!Â
And it's not like I can feel bad about what I've accomplished/will accomplish this year. First, I ran my first marathon! YES. Next weekend I'm riding 300 miles over 3 days. In August I'm going to do a 6 mile mud obstacle race. And I'm going to run the Detroit half marathon in October. Hardly a list to feel bad about.Â
But, with the acceptance of no tri this year, I do feel less stressed. I was legitimately worried about swimming, and I do feel a weight lifted because of that. And that weight was replaced by excitement! I am really excited to start training for the Detroit half. And it's super convenient that the Monday after my bike ride is day 1 of that training!Â
I'm much more excited than bummed, which tells me I'm making the right choice. I'm ready to be back to running full time :)
