the urge to create is more than the means to create

I started my big girl job this week. My kids start class Thursday. I have no schedule, no class roster, no textbooks, no calculators. I have desks and a pack of EXPO markers I bought myself. But we'll learn math this year. We'll learn number sense and solving simple equations, we'll learn fractions and probability, we'll learn scaling and estimating, and percents. We'll learn how to balance a checkbook and how to determine a tip. We will come together in a classroom as strangers and build ourselves a community of learners. And we will learn more than just math. We will learn to respect each other. We will learn to communicate. We will learn to love. We We will overcome our differences, leave our problems at the door, and focus on honing our skills. Sometimes, we will just sit, breathe, and listen to taylorswift instrumental music to get through the rough patches. And I will take every penny I earn this year, every dollar this county pays me, every quarter I find on the street, and invest it into them. I will fight for everything that they deserve, that they have earned, that they'll never see, but I'll try to give them anyway. I promise to fight for the kids that can't fight for themselves, stand up for the kids that are lost or broken, and love even the most hateful of the bunch. We might not have anything to start with. We might being starting from the very, very bottom of the world. But we are going places, little loves. We are destined for big things. You are the future. And I can't wait to know you.
