Post Apocalyptic Sander's Sides AU
Hello! This is inspired off of @sidespart amazing art of Logan and Robot!Roman. Check notes for navigation (Poor princey.) I'm sure @sidespart had a completely different idea when they were creating that art piece, so this is just my take. If they ever do anything more with that universe, just know that this is completely separate and...yeah. XD
Warnings: Lots of death mention (nothing graphic), minor character death, explosions, terrorist attacks, let me know if theres anything else!
Roman - Backstory
M29-Ro-man was created a couple years before the apocalypse by a robotics genius. The dude just took a bunch of parts from the scrap yard, cleaned them up, put him together, and programmed him to be Roman.
He was just sitting in his garage lifeless for the longest time because he was one of the few robots with emotions that existed and the creator didn't really want him stolen or known about yet. Also he was solar powered and any contact with the sun would bring him to life.
Decided to give him as a gift to a friend/Broadway star who needed a personal companion to rehearse lines with on a daily basis. Thus the robotics genius programmed Roman with everything a robot should probably not be programmed with. He had emotions, the ability to learn and gather information, and the ability to adapt through different situations and circumstances.
When the Broadway star received Roman he acted like a human with a metallic body and an off switch. He couldnt physically feel since he had no skin. The creator also mentioned to the Broadway star that he was a little too boisterous and wasnt sure how to fix it, but once meeting Roman, he didnt mind at all.
Roman instantly took to the theatre atmosphere. He was told what to do, how to help his human companion, and practice with him.
When Roman was not on duty, he was constantly watching Broadway show after Broadway show, acting them out on his own. He would always study the one his human was performing in to the T so he could help him get his lines accurate.
So they were both pretty good friends. Roman had never experienced that robots under humans rascism until way later. He experienced it when he got fitted for a prince outfit, because the Broadway star thought he'd like it, (which Roman very much did.)
Roman can also sword fight he found out. Not because he taught himself, but part of a fencing bot's mainframe was welded inside of him.
Roman believes all other robots are stupid after seeing none that act like him. He knew he was special and had a tendency to act like it.
It all changed when the first terrorist attack of WWIII happened. Of course it happened at Broadway. There was a bombing causing most of the building to collapse.
Lots of people died including his human Broadway star friend. But, Roman would never know what had happened to him. When the bomb exploded, the roof of the room he was in collapsed and debris switched Roman off rendering him useless for a couple of hours.
This is where he meets Logan.
Logan - Backstory
He was an average kid with an average family. He had no siblings and was often left to his own devices. Its not that he didn't try to make friends, its just he wasn't that good with social cues. Some say he may have been autistic, but no one knows for certain.
He has always loved robots growing up, and wanted to be someone who worked with robots. Unfortunately, the robot industry was already deep into the golden age and it was a very competitive field.
Giving up on that dream, he went with chemical engineering instead. He still had a heart for robots though, and would always watch them work whenever he could.
He was under the belief that robots should stay machines and not advance into anything else. So when he saw the world's first emotion robot he voted and protested against it with every fibre of his being.
He read the book "I am, Robot" (book about Robots taking over the world) so it makes sense why he didn't like the idea.
He graduated as valedictorian of his class and went on to become a theoretical chemist. Not what he had planned to do, but it was interesting nevertheless.
He was in a research group of 11 other scientists who were working to develop the world's first force field. It was when they succeeded that it all went to hell.
They were presenting their work at the world fair in New York when the bombing on broadway happened. It was utter chaos as other attacks ripped through the city and people ran for their lives.
Logan acted on impulse rushing people to safety while staying a safe distance with his colleagues, until an explosion split them apart.
Because one of the scientists had a feeling this was going to happen she made the other 11 make a plan b so their work wouldn't be stolen. Of the twelve, six split up the force field plans.
Logan was one of those six and was running with the three hard drives that contained all the equations for it. In his lab coat mind you, that he forgot would make him a target. So he was running from chopper fire and was able to hide behind a building and dive under rubble.
He had no idea where anyone was or if anyone was still alive since it seemed WI-Fi and internet was down all across the world. Even television was having problems.
He was shaking with fear as chaos continued to reign outside so he went further deep into the rubble to seek some sort of shelter if he could and wait out the storm.
He took a wrong step and fell a story into the exact room Roman was in.
He saw the unique looking robot, covered in debris and was more scared of it than anything. Maybe it was another trap or a bomb, but after it didnt move for awhile Logan's curiousity got the better of him and moved it out from under the pile and get a better look at it.
It was dressed like a prince, and had a sword. Some robot.
When Logan switched it on his life changed.
Hardship to Friendship
Basically the exchange went like this: Roman sprung to action with his sword. Logan shrieked and fell over from surprise. He was already scared of what was going on outside and this did not help. Roman called out Logan on his nerdy appearance and his so-called want to steal an amazing robot like him. "Over my dead body Isaac Snoopin'!" And Logan is just too terrified for any of this so he just faints.
Roman is more confused than anything, but the impact of a bomb over head tells him something is definitely wrong. His eyes widen as he remembers his human friend and is about to go find him, when the conscious he had developed told him he shouldn't leave the scientist behind no matter how much he wanted to. Especially if he was an enemy, and in sword fighting you never take your eyes off your enemy.
So he picked up Logan like a rag doll and began searching through the ruined structure for the stage.
It was a tragic scene when he got there however. No one was alive and he couldn't tell anyone apart it was that bad. Another bomb could be heard hitting the ground nearby. Roman had never felt this amount of sorrow before so he just kind of sat on the ground rocking with his knees to his chest with sadness not exactly sure how to process the emotion, since he couldn't cry.
Logan came around about an hour later and Roman was still repeatedly doing the same movements. When the prince-robot saw Logan begin to wake up he drew his sword at him.
"YOU DID THIS!" "Wh-what?! Me!?"
"Who else could have accomplished this feat but a scientist?! You murderer!" Logan began trying to explain that he's just one person and could never pull off something this massive.
As they argued, the ceiling of the room they were in began to collapse and they dove for cover in the nick of time.
Just cue the whole scene where they are running together for their lives through the crumbling hallways somewhat screaming, somewhat Roman yelling at Logan, and somewhat Logan getting frustrated at this almost human who is blaming him for the ruining of his theatre and death of his beloved friend. Logan was in the same predicament since he didnt know if anyone he knew was alive.
Logan does take it too far when he says "This is why your kind should never have emotions!"
Roman had a temper so he wasn't thinking when he took his sword and swiped it across Logan's face. Cue Roman realizing he is capable of hurting others and shrinking back. This is not the robot he wanted to be.
"I'm sorry. That was uncalled for." Logan was more suprised that the sword had only nicked him in the cheek and not got him in the throat or anything.
The place they are in begins to collapse right after that too and Logan shoves Roman out of the way with a "You're forgiven!" when the floor begins to crumble underneath them.
The rest of it is just them talking/ introducing themselves with just a little more civility and trying to find a way out of the building. They finally do, but it caves in. Roman helps push with Logan and finds out he is soooooo much stronger than a regular human. He clears the way so easily that Logan's actually jealous of the robot.
So now they are running through the city above ground away from the commotion and start their journey as fugitives in an apocalyptic world. Logan doesn't know why Roman is sticking with him and frankly Roman doesn't either, but the robot has no other place to go. Also Logan is a scientist and Roman is still suspicious that he wants to take him apart and study him. Which isn't completely wrong but Logan is more preoccupied with running for his life right now.
They first run to Logan's apartment a couple blocks down while the chaos is still happening around them. He grabs items from his house like he's evacuating and changes from his lab coat into more casual clothes, still keeping the hard drives with him.
Logan and Roman barely escape from the place before a bomb destroys the complex behind them. Logan gets tired quickly as they run through the traffic, since he didnt really work out. So Roman just picks him and his bags up with ease and sprints off with the speed of two cheetahs combined.
That was the story of how the two unlikely friends met. Logan eventually tries to contact his other colleagues only to find out that only three of them were left, not including himself. Each of them held a piece to the force field, but the blueprints of the actual structure were lost somewhere. Roman and Logan had parted ways for a little while so Logan could go meet up with the other scientists, but found out it was a trap just to get the three hard drives he had. His other colleagues were dead when he got there.
Roman had went to find his orginal creator, but there was no sign of him anywhere. So he returned to Logan and busted him out of the trap and they went on the run again.
From there on, the duo became inseparable even if they did seem like they were at odds half the time. They were soon joined by others who found sanctity and friendship within their tribe of misfits.
Emile Picani: The Ex Vice President of the fallen United States that everyone loved more than the actual president. He had signed a secret deal with the illuminati but when New York got attacked he said "Screw it" and ran.
Virgil: A 21-year-old boy with unexplainable psychic powers the government had locked up for experimentation. He's a techie and is good at technology and hacking stuff.
Patton: An alien disguised as a human who might have accidently contributed to Virgil's psychic powers. He loves everything about Earth, except the violence and bad stuff.
Remy: A defective clone who knew he was more than just a science experiment.
Nathaniel: An ex-security officer who just wants to survive the apocalypse and the people he's with sure seem to know what they are doing.
Thomas: An old friend of Logan's with the safe house they all camp out at sometimes. He is the one with all the money and supplies they need to stock up on.
There is so much more I could do for this AU. If you want me to do Patton and Virgil's meeting or backstories let me know. I'm sorry this got so long. I just love this AU now. Again credit to the artist who made that amazing piece sidespart and hope you all enjoy!
Pattonās Break
(This was a prompt I did waaay before I started writing my series, so fixed it up and added some new stuff to it. Enjoy! :)Ā )
Part Two, Three, Four, Five, and Six
Looking back on it all Logan felt that he should have known better, in all honesty, he really felt like he should have kept his mouth shut and stopped talking so much. The others had told him time and time again, both in subtle and pretty unsubtle ways to shut his mouth and to not talk.
I should have known...It was all there, I was just.. Iām supposed to be the smart one and yet I was just too stupid to see it.
Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid.
Thoughts like these rang around dizzily in his head, mocking him like the metaphorical demon on his shoulder, as the tears gathered at the corners of his eyes, before slowly leaking down and staining the grey hoodie that was bunched up into his arms. A sob hitched in his breath, but once again he muffled it by pressing his face into the soft grey hoodie that smelled of baked cookies and cinnamon sugar.
Why did he have to be stupid when it came to the person he loved?
It had started simple enough, as usual, they were all together. Taking part in one of their usual family meetings in the mind space that currently looked like the Thomasā living room, as they talked about whatever was going on with Thomas and how he could be expected to deal with it. Ā Roman shot off a few ideas that they were talking about even if a definitive point hadnāt been reached yet, all while Virgil and Logan idly chat together for a while. and
The moment that it seemed to happen was when Patton made a few of his jokes and in typical fashion Logan groans at one of them, he had rolled his eyes as the otherās snickered at his plight. Logan clapped his hand over his face being careful not to slap his glasses off of his face as he shook his head, the smile on Pattonās face seemed frozen there as Logan opened his mouth to speak.
āAnother one of your silly jokes Patton, really?ā The question was simple enough and something that was a normal response to one of Pattonās puns, and usually it wouldnāt have gone on without much of an issue like it usually did, but for whatever reasonā¦Patton just lost it.
Patton wasnāt laughing along with them, nor was he even smiling anymore at Loganās retort, that would have normally been deemed a joke between the two of them. Everything seemed to freeze at that moment, as Pattonās fingers curled into fists, and his smile now had one too many teeth visible, as he all but started to rip his cat hoodie off. The others werenāt laughing anymore either, Virgilās expression held a look of stiff terror as the quick and jerky movements from Patton seemed to surprise him the most.
Even Roman wasnāt quite sure what to do, as he just watched, and before any of them even knew it he was throwing it at Loganās face in what could most accurately be deemed a fit of pure unadulterated anger, then he started screaming. His torrent of anger filled screams ringing around the room, flooding out anyone else who would have talked over him.
āYou know what? I am DONE being the comedy relief. Iām done being talked over, and walked over. Iām FUCKING sick of just being the silly character to lighten the mood. Iām fucking done.ā There a little bit spittle could be seen flying from Pattonās mouth and even so, Logan wouldnāt have noticed it, all he saw was Pattonās flushed and angry looking face and the way that his eyes are furiously burning as he stared back into Loganās widened eyes. The moral side was heavily panting, his arms stiff and his hands still clenched like he wanted to punch something, or perhaps someone. His gaze burned into Logan.
Or maybe it was his own eyes that are burning? His chest perhaps? Logan didnāt know how to name what he was feeling in that moment, but instead of thinking about it, thinking about the pain that was akin to having one's heart ripped out and stomped on just about a thousand times by the one person who held it. Logan instead swallowed thickly, swallowing down all of the emotions that wanted to erupt out of him like a cataclysmic volcano that would leave no survivors. No, instead of letting himself go, and instead of allowing himself to feel any of it right now, he chose to do something else instead.
In that moment of tense silence, with the other two sides looking back and forth between him and Patton, Logan looks down at the hoodie and then back over to Patton. He could feel it, he could feel everyone staring, was its judgment? Were they judging him? Mocking him? Were they blaming him like Patton so rightfully does? Do they hate him too now? The only thing that he can even bear to muster up is something small and pathetic as he is in that moment in time, and heās sure that the others see it as such a thing as well.
The most that he can even let out right then, is a soft āOh,ā as he stares down at the cat hoodie, he stares for what feels like a long time his eyes still doing that irritating burning sensation that he wasnāt sure what to name, and then he suddenly sinks out.
When he is finally back inside of his room, Logan feels his fingers digging into the soft fabric of the cat hoodie, theyāre clenching it tightly, completely wrinkling the material, but even then his eyes are burning more and more.
Why canāt I see now? Whatās going on? Whyā¦
āOhā¦ā The pathetic whimper of the single word slips out of him.
That one word left him, just like the little drops of salty liquid slide gently down his cheeks and drip solemnly onto the warm brown fabric of the hoodie, So this is crying. Logan humorlessly thought to himself, his chest feels like itās going to explode any second now as he tries as hard as he can to hold it in for a second long. Eventually thoughā¦.eventually he lets it happen for a second, he lets himself cry as his shoulders start to tremble for a second, and then just moments later, they start to shake as if his body was gripped with the terror and fear of being scared for his life.
It takes him far too long, but once that he is able to it stops as soon as it had started, and soon enough heās wiping his eyes with the back of his hands trying to keep the uneven breathing down to a minimum. Finally, he lets out a breath and wiping his face once more before grabbing all of what he came for.
Logan sinks back out of his room, leaving the hoodie behind discarded on his bed. Forgotten for now.
It had alarmed Virgil for all but a few seconds when Logan had up and vanished on them, as it had with Roman as well as the creative side started to worriedly pace back and forth. None of them had expected him to just leave, perhaps not even Patton, who was just standing there now. His anger had drained away the moment that the heartbreaking emotion had crossed Loganās face, and even more so when Logan had looked up into his eyes, the warm brown eyes that were glazed over with a well of tears, before being replaced with something colder that none of them were used to.
The anxious side just stood there, not entirely certain as to what he should do now that had been standing there in sheer frozen horror, at least before he opened his mouth to call out Loganās name again. The first time, he had choked on his own words, Loganās name coming out more as a gasp of letters more than anything. Honestly, Virgil didnāt want to admit it but he was scared, he was scared of what Logan was going to do. Or rather what he could do.
Would he shout back? Would he laugh at Pattonās face, his anger? Would he completely break down? Would he...duck out like he had done before? Would he simply cease to be?
His questions all too soon were answered though. As the sight of Logan rising back up within just a few seconds.
The first thing that Virgil noted to his own dismay, were Loganās eyes. How red and puffy they were, like Logan had just been crying his heart and soul out, but hadnāt yet had the time to cover it up or to put a cool rag over his face to hide the redness from every one of them. It certainly wasnāt the only thing either, as in his hands much to Virgilās, Romanās, and even Pattonās muted surprise, he held Pattonās cardigan.
It had obviously been used a great deal, that much is obvious by its state of wear, not to say that it looks horrible. But rather it had the kind of state of wear that was there when someone has meticulously and carefully washed and cared for it over the course of months perhaps even the course of years.
That someone being Logan.
āI..I guess then, youāll want this back I guessā¦I..Iāve been using it to sleep with. But itās yours.ā
When Logan gives it back his hands are shaking and his fingers donāt dare to touch Pattonās as he sharply draws away as if the moral side had just stung him, and Patton just in general looks awfully shocked at Loganās words. A frown pulling at his lips, and barely..just barely Virgil saw something glimmering in his eyes as he took the cardigan back.
Pattonās fingers curled and dug into the fabric now drawing it close to himself, even from where he held it he could smell the faintest whiff of old books, ink, and ground up coffee beans. Even though he had never seen that cardigan again, Logan had been using it plenty when Patton hadnāt. Somehow, that made him feel all the worse for it too, as he watched Logan standing there his eyes locked to the floor. He couldnāt even bear to look him in the eyes.
āI..I will not defend myself against your wordsā¦ā Logan began, as he swallowed down the rising tears that wanted to spill over, he had to keep up this cold facade for as long as he possibly could. āAll that I will say isā¦you are not comedic relief, you never were to me. In my eyes were..you were someone who knew when nobody else did what was wrong. While I was just mere exposition, you could help solve problems that I didnāt even see, and Pattonā¦.I am sorry if I mistook what that meant.ā
Without even thinking, and with a face full of regret Patton reached forward, however, this time when Logan sinks out, he does not come back.

Bottles
Summary: One day when going to check up on Logan, Patton spies bottles lining the logical side's room. Bottles of all various colors and sizes, Logan assures him that they are nothing, but coupled with Logan's odd recent behavior, is everything as it seems?Ā
āLogan..what are these?ā
Itās a calm Tuesday afternoon when Patton pops his head into Loganās room, he had done so merely to ask the other if he wished to partake in a cute puzzle that Roman had just summoned for him. Truth be told, he had also come up here out of worry as well, the last thing that he wanted for Logan to be working himself to the bone, and the logical side hadnāt come out since breakfast.
However, upon looking inside he couldnāt help but to stop and look in awe, it is the first time that Patton has seen the inside of Loganās room in some time, and yet despite the fact that it had been a really long while, the change of it still surprised him. Not everything looked different, the glow in the dark stars that Patton had given to Logan many Christmases ago was still stuck on the ceiling and walls. Logan still had his bookshelves put up full of all the books that both he and Thomas had read in the past, and even his Ravenclaw rug was there just as it had always been on the smooth wooden floors.
The only difference that really seemed to stick out was the bottles.
There were dozens of them, all dotting the shelves that Logan had up for years. Yellows, blues, reds, greens, and purples. Primary colors that Patton would have honestly never expected to see in Loganās room, the logical side had a style, and when he liked his style Patton knew that he liked to stick to it. It was almost blasphemy for him to do anything but that, and yet there were the bottles that were up there as if they had always been up there. Several of them, now that he got a closer look at them had a fine layer of dust on them. They had been here for a while, so how hadnāt he noticed them?
Reaching forward Patton went to pick one of the dusty bottles up, it had a normal thick glass container only with a cork bottling in the strange substance inside.
āDonāt touch them!ā Logan quickly snapped, his hand instantly wrapping around Pattonās wrist just as his fingers were about to graze the glass bottle, and the expression on Loganās face held something that Patton hadnāt seen in...well ever.
Loganās bottom lip was captured in between his teeth as the logical side chewed on it and his eyes stared back at Patton, just looking into them Patton say something in them, something that felt impossible to grasp as Loganās eyes drifted away from the moral sideās face. Almost as if he felt ashamed by snapping at Patton in such a way, as he slowly unwrapped his fingers from around the moral sideās wrist leaving Patton to rub at where he had just been touched.
It was the oddest thing ever, but⦠Loganās touch was icy cold.
āI apologize for my unwarranted suddenness, but these hold some of my experiments. They can become dangerous if tampered with, and I donāt wish for you to hurt yourself, Patton.ā Logan explained, ignoring the way that the yellow bottle off to the side rocked faintly back and forth as he spoke. He was the only one, thankfully, who noticed it moving. āWhat was it that you interrupted my work for?ā
It sounded a lot harsher when he said it like that, but it was too late now, and Logan didnāt give a single hint that his own words had bothered him.
Especially as Patton beamed at him, āYouāre forgiven!ā The moral side chirped at him the hand dropping from his wrist as he rocked back and forth on his heels like a child all hyped up on sugar. āDo you want to do a puzzle? Roman just summoned one that has a picture of puppies and kittens on it, you look like you could use a break after all.:ā
Looking around himself, it suddenly seemed to have dawned on Logan that he was surrounded by his rough drafts of work that he had been working and working on throughout the day. Some even for things weeks in advance, even so thoughā¦
āI donāt think that I can pull myself away from my work now, perhaps at a later hour I may come down,ā Logan suggested, ignoring the way that the indigo-colored bottle rocked on the shelf above his bed when Pattonās bright smile dimmed to a sad smile, not that Patton would ever admit that it was a sad smile at all. āHow about...one more hour?ā He instead offered, and in response to the beautiful and sublimely warm smile that was aimed at him and only him, the bright fluorescent pink bottle practically trembled on the shelf next to his collection of Doctor Who DVDs.
āThatās perfect!ā Pattonās smile brightened at the promise, it was certainly more than he had expected to get from Logan, and an hour was nothing in compared to the hours he had figured he was going to have to wait. āIāll make us some lunch while youāre working then.ā And as if to tease Logan just a little bit more, Patton leaned in ruffling Loganās neat slicked back hair. Releasing the curls that Logan so meticulously tried to constantly keep in place, but Patton liked it this way, it was adorable to see the curls flopping in Loganās face. He wished that he could see Logan like this more often, but he knew that wishing for miracles when it came to Logan was like wishing for Roman to use a little less glitter when it came to anything. It wasnāt going to happen.
So ignoring the scoff from Logan as the logical side immediately went to straighten his hair, Patton turned darting from the room like the childish fifth grader who had just pulled the pigtails of the girl he liked. Slamming the door on his way out.
The bottle on the shelf closest to the door rocked almost mockingly in response to the sudden and rather violent action.
A bright yellow one, the same color as the sunflowers that Roman had once summoned on Pattonās birthday tipped, the curved bottom of the bottle no longer stable as it started to fall from the edge.
Panic and fear wasnāt normally something that Logan allowed himself to feel, but at that moment, with his messed up hair forgotten, caution was thrown to the wind. As he stumbled at first, jerking his body into action before he suddenly dove for the bottle watching it fall. As the seconds, at first, seemed all too slow before they suddenly sped up again, everything was happening way too fast now.
Especially as the bottle thumped against the end of his fingers propelling it away from his hand and into the wall, the moment it cracked Logan felt it rather than saw it. The moment it broke it felt like someone had shoved a javelin of feelings right into his chest, just to twist it around in order to make the experience as painful as he possibly could. His glasses fell off of his face when he landed although that was the last thing he cared around as he scrambled over, reaching for the bottle, even though he already knew what the end result was.
A long crack ran through the entirety of the bottle, and the bright color that was once been inside was now gone. To top it off, he ached, his chest ached like nothing he had ever felt before. The bottle tumbled from his numb hands and before Logan knew it, he was grasping at his chest, his mouth open as he gasped for air, only he couldnāt bring himself to make his lungs actually work. His mouth was open and when he opened his eyes again he saw the blurry surface of the floor as he stared blankly out, only it didnāt end there either. As his muscles twitched and spasmed, as if an electric shock had been forced through them at an impossibly high voltage.
It doesnāt hurt.
I donāt have feelings.
They didnāt hurt me.
I donāt feel lonesome for being left out.
Words are just words, so therefore what he said couldnāt hurt me.
Iām needed.
Iām wanted.
Iām necessary.
The one lie he hadnāt told himself was true, it hurt a hell of a lot more putting it all back in than it had putting those damned emotions and those lies in the bottles.

Bottles: Part 4
Summary:Ā One day when going to check up on Logan, Patton spies bottles lining the logical side's room. Bottles of all various colors and sizes, Logan assures him that they are nothing, but coupled with Logan's odd recent behavior, is everything as it seems?
One, Two, Three
Patton felt his hand graze right over Loganās head, his fingers brushing against the slicked back softness of the logical sideās hair as Logan ducked out on him, stumbling forward with nothing there to catch him, he barely caught himself on the edge of the counter. Picking himself back up though, Patton couldnāt help but imagine the scene over and over again, Logan looking like he was going to be positively sick, the fear and terror washing over the logical sideās face, as well as the pink hue, staining the tops of his cheeks.
Patton leaned heavily against the counter, the thought that had been tugging at him faintly when he had been eating with Logan, was now spinning around in his head like a blurry tango.
Was Logan really that sick? Why hadnāt he told me? I would have helped him, I would have helped Logan in whatever way I possibly could, he has to know that. Right? He knows that I care about him...he has to. Heās not that blind.
However, almost unwillingly Patton felt his eyes drift over to the book, the book that Logan had been using to communicate to him with. In Loganās own eagerness to get out and away from Patton, he had left the book behind. The very same book that he had seen Logan jot down a few of his experiments and experiences in, and the familiar yet subtly creeping feeling of dread washed over him like a riptide taking him out to sea.
Logan wasnāt stupid, he knew that he could come to me if he was sick. So..was if it was something elseā¦
Guilt racked his insides the moment he even considered picking up the book, this was Loganās, and yet here he was about to trespass on his personal and very private property of where he kept all of his most private thoughts trapped within the pages. And yet, he couldnāt stop himself as he reached for the well-worn pages, the moment that his fingertips touched the cover though, Patton felt himself freeze practically holding his breath. As if Logan would pop up right then and there to accuse the moral side of not respecting his privacy and that Patton obviously didnāt care about him if he was doing this.
The silence stretched through the air as nothing happened. He was alone in the kitchen, and the book seemed to look at him almost mockingly at that fact.
Iāll apologize when I see Logan again..Iāll apologize.
Patton coached himself, as if that would somehow make himself feel better about what he was about to do, and yet his fingers continued to linger on the cover of the notebook that had constellations doodled all over it. Right then and there he could feel his resolve dissolving away as he just continued to stand there and do nothing, he needed to know, and he knew that he needed to know. So squeezing his eyes shut and curling fingers into a fist, he hurriedly without giving himself a chance to back out, slammed the book open to the first page.
Sketches.
Tons and tons of sketches littered the pages, just looking down at them Patton felt a bloom of awe spreading in his chest as the images of himself doing normal everyday things littered the pages. Unlike Romanās drawings which were more than often done in a usual cartoon style, Loganās..Loganās sketches looked so real. If he looked close enough, Patton could even see the faint dusting of freckles on his nose that Logan incorporated in every picture he had drawn of Patton.
āTheyāre beautifulā¦ā The hushed whisper left Patton, and for a second he felt ashamed at how surprised he was by this, as he glanced over to the stairs that led up to their rooms. Especially as his fingers brushed over the image of all of them together, with Virgilās sour well-meaning frown, Romanās exaggerated pose, and Pattonās...his warm smile that seemed to somehow light up the page with the subtle colors that Logan had added to them.
It was such a shame that when he turned the next page, Patton felt such a crushing sense of disappointment as the sketches seemed to just completely vanish as he started flipping through more and more pages. Instead, they were increasingly replaced with more and more scientific ramblings that had hastily been jotted down as if Logan was terrified that heād lose his thoughts if he didnāt get them down on paper. Mathematical equations, chemistry, and astronomy took up a good chunk of Loganās book and given that Patton had a difficult time wrapping his head around a few, he skipped a few pages. Up until the point that one page and one page, in particular, stuck out to him.
Bottles.
Sketches of bottles filled up the pages, each of the contents of those bottles a widely varying color as well as size. Green, purple, yellow, pink, red, blue, indigo, and even a deep jet black. The shapes of the bottles ranged from one that looked like a coca cola bottle that was colored red to a short square bottle that had been shaded a pitch black color. Underneath those pictures though, Patton felt any hope and happiness he had previously held onto fade away like an aging picture.
Loganās handwriting was tiny under each picture of the bottles, and it all stuck out to the moral side. These were one of Loganās experiments, and yet it was somehow worse than anything that Patton had ever laid eyes on. His eyes drifted over the text before settling on the one that had the earliest starting date scribbled next to the sketches.
The bottles that seem to hold the red that has appeared, upon further inspection to hold my anger inside of them. What supports this hypothesis is the fact that earlier today, I was once again insulted by the others. To my relief the experiment did work, and I felt nothing, although it was fairly simple to act like I felt peeved towards them. I did, however, feel a direct connection to the bottle solely responsible for holding in that emotion. This experiment has been a success, later I will move on to other emotions to see just how many I can store away.
A rough and jagged gasp escaped Patton with little to no warning as he clasped his hand over his mouth, his eyes widened behind his glasses as they remained glued to the first recordings of Loganās experiment. Right then and there he wasnāt sure if he was about to throw up or cry, and yet despite feeling like this he couldnāt stop himself from looking over to the next passage of text that Logan had jotted down just a few days after he had written the first one. It was the blue bottle.
I have finally come to the conclusion that for Logic to have an emotion such as sadness is completely and utterly useless. As it stands, Patton is the core of Thomasā emotions, and thus for me to have them would only add to an existing problem that I already cause enough of already. So, I sealed away my sadness which manifested itself as a blue bottle. It worked wonders, the experience proved to be successful when Roman snapped at me this morning, saying one of his usual comments that normally would have made me feel something on the negative spectrum of emotions. So I have decided that with this recent success, the next to go will be envy. As Virgil said, I am the least popular one here, so I should stop getting upset about it.
Looking over to the bottle that was colored green, Patton felt his eyes watering as only a single word was written under the sketch.
Success.
He felt almost possessed to keep reading the entries of Loganās experiments on his own feelings, like his feet were stuck in drying cement and the only way he would be freed was to keep reading, but could he? Could he do this? It felt hard enough to read the three that he had seen already. Like with each word that Logan had written, a piece of his very soul was being chipped away and turned into the tears that were welling up in his eyes.
āOh, Loganā¦ā Patton whispered, the words themselves coming out a choked whisper, as the warm salty tears trailed down his cheeks dripping onto the pages of the book.
