ASURA APPRECIATION WEEK DAY THREE
@asura-appreciation-corner
Does your OC have a krewe? What do they specialize in? How do they get along with each other?
Before he was recruited by the inquest Flikk was part of a krewe in the college of dynamics! They were studying sylvari and genetic modification in plants. He started his work on his dream theory with them back in the day.
Teela was Flikk’s childhood friend, the two grew up together and went on to study together in dynamics. She’s headstrong and isn’t afraid to say what she’s thinking, which has definitely gotten her in trouble before. Flikk liked having her around, the two were good for keeping each other level headed, Teela was always reliably keeping everyone from getting in over their heads. They might’ve also had mutual crushes on each other, but who can say ;)
Nixxi was the hands on one of the krewe, always tinkering with some device or other. She loved building little mechanical beasts that didn’t really serve a purpose, but were fun to play with. Nixxi was the reason the krewe’s lab always looked like a mess, with machines everywhere and papers scattered all over the place. She loved making the krewe smile and was always up to some ridiculous scheme when she wasn’t tinkering. She even built her own dragon!
Toxx was Flikk’s friendly rival. They loved outdoing each other when working together, but always kept it from turning bitter. Toxx was usually pretty quiet and nervous, but Flikk brought out his competitive streak when they became friends. Toxx studied the medicinal effects of plants, and wanted to become a medic. His research on different drug properties of plants was expanded when he decided to research sylvari. His extensive knowledge of sylvari biology made him a very valuable asset in Caledon forest, where he lived for a while and treated wounded sylvari.
Flikk left them to pursue his goals with the inquest after a huge fight over the ethics of his idea. Toxx was horrified at Flikk’s proposal to experiment on sylvari, having just returned from working with them. Teela thought Flikk was above stooping to the inquest’s level, and she told him exactly what she thought of him and his experiment. He stormed off and the rest of the krewe stayed together, they would occasionally see him. He missed them during his time with the inquest, but has never regretted the opportunities joining the megakrewe gave him.
Well, maybe he does regret it some days.
It’s a little empty without Nixxi’s laughter and Teela’s collection of mugs scattered about and Toxx’s radio blasting some awful music.
*holds open the floodgates to let all the info out*
HEY!!!!! What's the differences between our space and tyrian space? Also, what advancements in space study have been/are being achieved by your krewe?
@mystery-salad
deep breath
ok so, there's one MAJOR difference here: Tyrian stars have completely different life cycles, and are legitimately useful for augury.
Firstly, the night sky evolves much, much faster than it does in real life, and that's why constellations are all named in modern language. There's no "Cuspis" but there is a "Siege Devourer," and I posit that this is because the stars change position (or existence status) relatively quickly, so ancient constellations simply don't exist anymore. I feel justified in saying this, mostly due to the fact that Elder Dragons form new stars when they appear, and also it's just really odd to not have any Old Names for constellations.
For the second point, the Canthans in GW1 did divination with the positions of the stars (and planets, see note below), as did the Jotunn, and some Norn culture as well (if memory serves).
Tyria does, in fact, have an inclined axis of rotation. The different lengths of day and night in core maps, combined with the equal lengths in Cantha, imply this directly.
There are other planets (almost certainly discovered by the Jotunn before their fall, given the massive telescope found in the Jotunn path in Arah).
The following are pure headcanon with zero base in canon, though it's all perfectly compatible.
Tyria has two moons, the large one we see in-game being named Tungl and a much smaller, nearly too-dark-to-see named Flakkari.
The sun is named Ljos, but is near-identical to Earth's Sol.
Current S.P.A.C.E. Krewe projects:
Our optical observatory is quite good due to Kanni's optical expertise and Cidda's specialty in high-detail photography, so we'll have good imagery of those other planets I mentioned, and I'll have an excuse to build up the entire Ljosian system.
Yukii is pioneering the field of radio astronomy (my real-life job), and Leppa is currently using that equipment to perform a survey of deep sky objects. There's some weird stuff out there in real life, and who knows what she'll find in this universe?
Nixxi and Takka are working on launch vehicles to officially start the space exploration process. Satellites fitted with optical cameras and other sensors will revolutionize cartography, geology, and navigation, once we get the rockets working.
Kovvi's current project involves extreme-range wireless data transmission, including images and live voice. This will initially be used in conjunction with the satellites, but will eventually result in things like long-range encrypted communication devices becoming much cheaper to produce.
There's lots I'm forgetting but it'll come up eventually I'm sure 😅 Thank you so much for asking about this aa

(legendary-renegade-stance) how about a ✨ for yukii and ✨ for nixxi?
One krewe chief fact and one fuel systems engineer fact, coming right up, @legendary-renegade-stance 🌌
✨: Right after Cantha opened up, Yukii took the Auxiliary Division staff (and Sakki) to Kaineng on a business trip, wanting to open communications and discuss land acquisition for a new launch facility. While there, she discovered that she loved the local food, and now makes monthly trips with her partner Zildi to visit some friends she made in the Ministry of Archives. Once the facility is built (and gate travel established) these trips will become much more frequent.
✨: The ribbon Nixxi uses to tie her hair up is made of an extremely heat-resistant fabric, after an unfortunate detonation of an early prototype set her original ribbon aflame. She escaped with most of her hair intact and one very important lesson learned!

Several members of krewe leadership have updated their wardrobes! Sakki in particular is extremely proud of the bare midriff she managed to clear through Admin, though being a founding member certainly didn’t hurt her case.
Flikk and co thoughts tonight lads
- I mentioned it the other day but as a kid Flikk had horrible allergies and usually couldn’t be outdoors without being absolutely miserable or even sick. This didn’t stop him from trying to be outside and it’s how he met Teela
- He was an only child and his parents loved him so so much. They weren’t happy with his choice to join the inquest, but were devastated when they heard about his death. Flikk’s old krewe helped them out whenever they could, and became the kids they never had.
- Nowadays the remaining krewe members are still together. After Flikk’s death they joined the pact and helped fight against the elder dragons.
- Toxx had his arm partially branded by kralk during the fight at dragonfall. He was very lucky to not have been fully branded, and now has a kickass claw hand. At least he can still do field medic work with it
- Nixxi’s mech work has become known among the pact, she builds incredibly powerful golem suits to pilot. They’re all obnoxiously decorated too.
- Flikk tries to seek them out after he starts regaining his memories. He’s unable to find his old krewe but he DOES find his parents. It’s a weird reunion. They thought he’d been dead for years and now he shows up and barely remembers them or what he did.
- Flikk and Finn both really go through it when they start remembering the horrors™️
- Finn’s absolutely horrified and so is Flikk!! But it’s much worse for Finn. They watched their friends die at Flikk’s hands. Flikk ripped their body apart and put it back together with his hands. When they remember the rush of feeling overwhelms the both of them to the point that they can’t drown out the pain. Flikk physically feels everything he’d done to Finnegan.
Takka for the boss fight ask meme! (from @synchrosgw2)
thanks for the ask, @synchrosgw2 :3
Takka and Nixxi are a dual boss fight, like Ornstein and Smough from Dark Souls. You're creeping through the conveyor belts, stacks of metal, and idle machinery of Fabrication, searching for a key piece of equipment, when all the lights go out. The metal press beside you rumbles to life and slams down, showering you with sparks and briefly illuminating the claustrophobic corridor with a warm orange glow. You turn to leave, back the way you came, but you're thrown forward by a massive explosion that rocks the building.
You pick yourself up off the ground and see a large crater in the center of the building, surrounded by small fires that provide enough light for mortal combat. Through the smoke, on the opposite side of the crater, Takka rolls in on a large treaded tank. She sits on the turret wearing a welding mask, and Nixxi pops up out of a hatch holding a remote control. A small propeller-powered drone descends from the ceiling and spotlights you, nearly blinding you with the powerful light. Takka revs the engine of the tank.
The spotlight slowly tracks the player with the highest toughness, and if any player is illuminated for too long Nixxi uses the drone to fire an explosive round that immediately downs anyone nearby. This is dodgeable, except for the player who instigated the attack (they are guaranteed to go down). Takka attempts to run over the highest toughness player with the tank, and fires the turret at random players. This attack does high damage in a line, but has an obvious cast time. If the squad baits an attack to hit certain scenery parts on the edge of the arena, it will cause an explosion that disables the drone temporarily.
