There were rare moments when silence would fall between them, and Nate’s mind would wander. He would think of what they’d done to get them to this point, pressed together in the claw foot bathtub in their modest apartment, and it would make his skin crawl. No amount of her expensive bubble bath could scrub away the things he’d done to get to this moment.

But then she would press back against him and let her eyes fall shut and his arms would tighten around her waist, and he had to wonder if it could’ve ever been avoided in the first place when she fit so perfectly against him.
